This old house was probably built over 400 years ago but it has been sympathetically modernised by the owners. Situated at the top of the village on a quiet street it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy some clear mountain air. From the terrace one can see the sea during clear days (winter and autumn) and even the distant Rif mountains of Africa. Eagles soar in the valley below and the occasional inquisitive goat may peer through the window. In the winter the house is heated by log burning stoves and electric heaters are available for each room. The house stays cool in summer as it is built into the side of the mountain. Skylights throughout the house ensure a light and airy feel and mountain spring water comes out of the taps. The popular white village of Pampaneira affords several decent restaurants and bars - so you won't have to drive anywhere to go out for dinner.

Accessibility
This property is not suitable for people with mobility problems.
Outside
Outdoor first floor terrace with table and seating. A barbecue can be supplied upon request. This terrace is south-facing and enjoys some privacy and is ideal for sunbathing or watching the sunset.
Coast/Beach
The coast is approx. 1 hour away from the village by car. The pretty town of Salobrena is the nearest coastal destination. The beaches of the tropical coast tend to be gritty or pebbly. Slightly further to the west, sandy beaches can be found. Heading east one can visit the beautiful Cabo de Gata natural park with its long empty sandy beaches.
Skiing
The Sierra Nevada ski resort is about 1.5 hours away. It is possible to go there on a day trip if you set off early.
Travel
Granada airport is about 1.5 hours away by car. It is quite easy to get to and from. Otherwise Malaga airport is approx. 2.5 hours away. To drive down to Andalucia from the ferry ports in the north takes a full day but can easily be accomplished.
Distances
Pampaneira is in the high Alpujarras and you're never too far from a village. Nearby Bubion can be reached on foot in only 20 minutes through some beautiful countryside, or 5 minutes by car.
Granada city, with its amazing architecture, restaurants and tapas bars is just over an hour away. A bus leaves every morning, if you don't want to drive.
Further details
The nearest supermarkets are in Bubion or Pitres and are well-stocked with local produce as well as the normal brands. A bank can be found in Pitres. All local products (ham, wine, honey etc) are available in abundance within Pampaneira itself.
The area hosts a great diversity of activities. Walking, bird watching, paragliding, scuba diving, skiing, sailing and horse riding can all be easily arranged. If you'd like to combine your visit with a course there are numerous workshops teaching everything from yoga to stained glass window making - most in English. Just ask Jason, the owner, who has lived here for some years and can organise activities or courses for no extra charge.
Booking notes
Please pay 50% in advance and the remainder soon after arrival. The deposit will be returned if you cancel your booking 3 months prior to the booking date.
Payment can be by bank transfer (either Spanish or UK accounts), PayPal or by cheque.
