'Cortijo Cairo' is a spacious, peaceful retreat. It has been lovingly restored retaining its charm and original features. Attention to detail is evident everywhere. The master bedroom features a grand four-poster bed and en suite bathroom and opens onto a spectacular terrace. The accommodation is on 2 levels, all the rooms are large and spacious, with a well equiped kitchen, open plan dining and TV room and a relaxing lounge area with stonework fireplace. Every bedroom can boast spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. There is even a telescope on site for visitors to take advantage of the clear nights for a bit of stargazing. The farmhouse is set in 5 acres of terraced land planted with almond trees with the barranco Cairo flowing through it. The property is featured on the ITV 'tonight' program on 1st September 2008 about cheap flights, the program can be seen on the ITV website.

Accessibility
The property is situated on several terraces and levels and may not be suitable for very small children or people with mobility problems.
The house is 3 minutes walk from the village square, it is accessible by car and has a parking bay.
Outside
Sunloungers are available on the terrace, along with a hanging chair for relaxing in! There is also a large terrace area on the ground floor level.
Also the cortijo has about 5 acres of land to explore.
Hammocks are also available to put up in a secluded spot in the shade and for winter months there are 2 sledges for fun in the snow.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is at La Rabita, 45 mins drive. The amazing beaches of Cabo de Gata are 1 hour 50 mins away, well worth the trip, excellent for snorkelling.
Skiing
The cross-country ski centre of Puerta de la Ragua is 1 hour drive away, also good for tobogganing. The ski resort of Granada is 2 hours drive.
Travel
Airports: Almeria 1 hour 30 mins, Granada 1 hour 45 mins, Malaga 2 hours 30 mins. There is a coach service twice a day from Granada and Almeria (Approx 4 hour's trip). Hiring a car is strongly recommended.
Distances
Alcutar centre is 3 mins walk. Berchules village is 15 mins walk or 3 mins drive. The town of Cadiar (with many shops and market) is 10 mins drive. The cities of Granada and Almeria are 1 hour 30 mins drive.
Further details
There are lots of options for activities in the area, horseriding, painting courses, walking (the famous GR7 walking route runs through the village) there are copies of maps and guide books which you can take with you whenever you are going out. In July Alcutar and Berchules celebrate their Fiestas, in early August Berchules is famous for its celebration of the New Year, a weekend not to be missed!
Trevelez is only a 25 minute drive and is well known for its cured ham, as well as being a great place to eat with several good resturants to choose from.
Cadiar has everything you might need, food stores, butcher, pharmacy, bars and 2 banks as well as a weekly market to buy local produce. If you enjoy cooking you will find the kitchen in the house very well equiped, it has everything you might need to cook up a perfect meal after your shopping trip, if cooking is not your thing there are several good resturants within walking distance in Berchules, one has a large swimming pool for customers' use.
The farmhouse is a great family home or a perfect place for groups of friends to share a restful, private holiday together. In the house you will find games, books, CDs and DVDs to use, there is lots of space to spread out and enjoy the perfect views.
