Further details
Albunuelas is a traditional whitewashed village that still relies on agriculture. Donkeys with esparto grass panniers can be seen in the lanes. It has two restaurants and a couple of bars, bank, medical centre, pharmacy, two supermarkets, butchers and bakers. Thursday is market day in the village square.

There are restaurants in Restabal and Melegis along with various bars, banks, cash points, butchers, bakers, supermarkets, pharmacies and two filling stations (one with internet room).

Durcal's market is Wednesday. Several good eating places.

Granada is amazing with the Alhambra; Albaicen and souk area and wonderful tapas bars. Guided 'tapas' tours are available.

The Alpujarras region includes Pampaneira - a craft village with rugs, pottery and honey. Llanjaron has a famous spa. Bubion and Capileira are popular with walkers. The area is the background to a trilogy of books by Chris Stewart - 'Driving Over Lemons', etc., and the Gerald Brennan novel, 'South of Granada'. Mulhacen (Spain's highest mountain) is nearby.

There are water parks at Almunecar and Granada and a diving school at La Herradura. Costa Tropical has good beaches and some good restaurants. Almunecar market is Friday.

A section of the GR7 walk, which runs from Tarifa to Istanbul, goes through the Rio Santo Gorge below the house and there are many scenic walks in the area.

Activities include golf, tennis, hang gliding, hot air ballooning, off road biking, cycling and horse riding. Fishing is well catered for with Lake Beznar, Embalse de Quantar and Embalse de Frederico Abellan nearby.

We have seen eagles flying in the valley below and there have been sightings of kestrels, hoopoe birds and honey buzzards. Binoculars are provided.

The area has Roman, Moorish and Iberian artifacts.
