Our house is situated in the Altiplano in the peaceful village of Puente Arriba which is between Benamaurel and Castillejar. All your catering needs can be purchased in the village shop and the local bar will introduce you to the warmth of true Spanish hospitality. Locally baked bread can be bought from the bakers van on a daily basis. To gain the most from your holiday, car hire is essential. Our house is a typically Spanish villa. As you enter the hallway, you turn left through the double doors into the spacious, modern, fully equipped kitchen/dining room. The spacious living room has 2 comfy sofas and a sofa bed in front of the large log fire. There is a DVD/CD player for you to enjoy your favourite films and melodies. The living room opens out onto the balcony where you can relax and enjoy the warm evenings while soaking up the view across the village and down to the river. The house is fully centrally heated making it ideal for a stay at any time of year.

Changeover day
Arrivals are welcome on any day, and we are flexible regarding late arrivals as we are aware of the flight times.
On changeover day it is necessary to vacate the property by midday.

Accessibility
This property is sutable for wheelchair users as the master bedroom, main bathroom and kitchen are all located on the ground floor. There is a ramp to the front door and all the doors are wide enough to accommodate a standard wheelchair.
Although the house is suitable for wheelchair users, it has not been specifically modified, therefore some mobility is required.
Outside
The balcony is accessed through the living room and has a patio table with chairs and an umbrella. It is not overlooked, and the views are stunning.
Coast/Beach
The coast is an ideal day trip from this location as it is just an hour and a half drive away.
Golf
Although there is no golf course in this locality there are many courses near the coast which is an hour and a half drive - and well worth it! There is also a course at Granada which takes about the same time to reach.
Skiing
The ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are an hour and a half away, and there is also a sledging area near Guadix.
Travel
Granada airport is just over an hour away and served from the UK by Ryanair (Stansted, Liverpool, East Midlands) and Monarch (Gatwick). Almeria airport is 1.5 hours away. Murcia, Malaga and Alicante airports are 2.5 hours away. The road network in this part of Spain is excellent and there is little traffic.
As the house is in a village location car hire is essential. This also gives you the benefit of total freedom to enjoy discovering all the local sights.
Distances
In Puente Arriba there is a bar, a shop, a church and a school. Lake Negratin is 20 minutes drive and provides swimming and other water sports. There are 4 national parks in the area including the Sierra de Castril with its walkway over the river - a must for all visitors.
The village of Benamaurel is 10 minutes drive with a selection of bars and restaurants and shops. For serious retail therapy, and historic interest, the city of Granada is just an hours drive.
Further details
Puente Arriba is a tiny village in the Altiplano (high plain). It is perfect for a complete away from it all break, and also as a focal point for exploration. The coast is 1 1/2 hours drive away as are the Sierra Nevada where you can ski in the winter months. There is also sledging not far from the cathedral city of Guadix.
For the adventurous amongst you it is possible to book a hot air balloon flight from Guadix. Wonderful in the summer but stunning in the winter when the snow is on the Sierra Nevada.
In February 2008 a beauty parlour opened in Puente Arriba so you may like to treat yourself to a facial, or a back massage. The salon is only 2 minutes walk from the house.
The local town of Baza is also steeped in history as it is the only Moorish town without a protetive wall. There are Arabic baths and many other historic buildings. There are many large supermarkets and bars and restaurants at every turn. There is also a karting track. During the summer months there is an outdoor disco. Other evening entertainment is available throughout the year.
Local swimming pools are open in July and August with the pool at Orce (where you swim with the fish) being available all year round. In Baza there is an indoor pool, and tennis courts.
On the banks of Lake Negratin there is a spa pool which is open all year, and covered in the winter to take advantage of the naturally warm water. There is a bar/restaurant overlooking the pool, and another close to the village of Freila.
Booking notes
We require a 20% deposit at the time of booking, with the balance payable 4 weeks before the date of your arrival. If you book less than 4 weeks before the start of your stay the total cost is required at the time of booking.

"We have returned from our stay at Casa Del Salto, Benamaurel. The house is kept to a very high standard, with home from home comforts you can even have a log fire. This is a very rustic and unspoilt part of Spain and the views are fantastic, with plenty of places to see and visit. The local people are very friendly and you can eat out very cheaply - tapas is free. You will need a car but you are only 10 minutes away from Baza or the lakes well worth a visit."
"This is a first class property ideally located for exploring rural Spain. The house is superbly equipped to make your stay a memorable one. There are four of the most wonderful municipal pools within 20mins drive of the house costing 2 euros for the day. Don't miss our favourite area LAKE NEGRATIN. It is absolutely breathtaking. You can lay and sunbathe or take a pedalo out on the lake. It is a great place to swim. 3J's bar is 5 minutes walk from the house. This is a traditional Spanish bar serving tapas with every beer.
