This is really the place to get away from it all! This large cortijo has been carefully renovated and now provides comfortable and stylish accommodation. The house stands amidst thousands of mature olive trees, overlooking Lake Iznajar, in the heart of the Subbetica National Park. An excellent choice for bird-watching, walking, cycling, painting, or just relaxing and recharging your batteries! The owners live in an adjoining house, and will be delighted to answer any questions or help with directions, booking restaurants, etc.

Notes on accommodation
Central heating in the winter. Fans provided in the summer. Regrettably children under 16 cannot be accommodated. Babies and children not yet walking or crawling are welcome. No smoking inside the property, but you are welcome to smoke outside. The British owners live in an adjoining house and are available to help/advise in any way.
Accessibility
The self catering apartment is on the ground floor and is all on one level for anyone with mobility problems, although the doors are not wide enough for a wheelchair. Parking for this apartment is just a few steps away from the entrance. The main house which contains the bed and breakfast rooms does have stairs.
Outside
Many terraces to choose from, for either sun or shade. BBQ, tables, chairs and sunbeds all provided. Petanque set available.
Coast/Beach
Iznajar has its own beach area on the lake and is 15 mins from the cortijo. Facilities include a popular beach bar/restaurant serving food and drinks throughout the day. There are also picnic tables on the beach for those who prefer to take a picnic. Drive your car to the water's edge and enjoy a stunning sunset across the water.
Malaga beaches are approximately an hour away with many good beach bars and restaurants to choose from.
Golf
There is a good 18 hole (par 72) golf course at Antequera, which is approx 40 minutes drive from the cortijo.
Skiing
Sol y Nieve is the ski resort just outside Granada. Relaxed skiing midweek (busier at weekends and public holidays) with little or no queueing for lifts. Good for beginners and intermediate skiers. 45 mins drive from the cortijo.
Travel
Granada airport - 45 mins.
Malaga airport - 50 mins.
Car hire is essential in this rural location to truly appreciate the surrounding area.

Iznajar town is approx 6 miles from Cortijo de San Jose, with supermarkets, banks, post office, internet cafe, restaurants, bars and shops.

Seville approx 1.5 - 2 hours.
Antequera approx 40 mins.
Beaches of the Costa del Sol approx 50 mins.
Further details
Bird watching with a local English guide can be arranged. Walking with a local English speaking group is free of charge and anyone is welcome to join in as long as they are reasonably fit and have the appropriate shoes and clothes.
For animal lovers there is Lobo Park, a wolf sanctuary. Or try the Donkey Sanctuary at Fuente de Piedra (Refugio del Burrito). Fuente de Piedra is also the location of a large lake which is home to as many as 40,000 flamingoes and many other interesting birds.
