Accessibility
As the village streets are extremely steep and uneven, this property is not suitable for the elderly or infirm.
Outside
Broad steps lead from the gate to the private walled garden with small relaxation pool. The pool has not been designed for swimming but simply for lazing in on submerged seating and will happily accommodate 4 people (perhaps with an ice-cold drink each!). A dining area, which seats 6, is shaded by cana and vine and benefits from outdoor lighting and electric point. There are also 4 sunbeds (2 further sunbeds are available on the upstairs terrace) which can be positioned in either sun or shade. Help yourself to lemons from the tree in season or herbs from the garden. There is an automatic irrigation system to all plants so don't worry about watering them!
Coast/Beach
It is a 45 minute drive to the beaches of the Costa Tropical, the nearest being Playa de Granada and Salobrena, both offering shops, bars, restaurants and beach showers. The hilltop village of Salobrena itself is an extremely pretty and historic town offering a full range of shops and ancient castle.
Quietier beaches without facilities are located just outside the town and there is a nudist beach with bars/restaurants at Canterrijan, approximately 1 hour 15 mins from the house.
Travel
Granada Airport is the most convenient being located 1 hour and 15 mins drive from the property. Malaga and Almeria offer a wider range of destinations/carriers and both are located approximately a 2 hour drive away.
There is a daily bus service to Granada from the village but car hire is recommended. If you prefer we can arrange airport transfers at a small additional cost and can also arrange for a hire car to be delivered to the property.
Distances
The house is situated within the village of Torvizcon some 20km from the market town of Orgiva. Granada, with its famous and unmissable Alhambra and Generalife is approximately 1 hour's drive.
Further details
With a population of just under 1000, Torvizcon has 4 bars plus a hotel and pension, both of which serve meals. There are also 3 small supermarkets, bakery, butchers, fishmongers and a weekly vegetable stall, enabling you to do all your shopping without leaving the village. The travelling market visits on the 1st and 16th of every month with a selection of clothing, plants, nuts and olives etc. For a wider range of shops and a bustling Thursday market, the town of Orgiva is just 20 kms away.
The open air village pool is open during the months of July and August and there is a children's play area open daily.
Las Alpujarras are the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range which form a green and scenic valley between Granada and the coast. Watered by the Moorish system of Acequias, the land is in part fertile whilst elsewhere it remains scrubby and craggy providing a wide range of habitats for local flora and fauna. Look out for the ibex and wild mountain goats often to be seen from the roadside and marvel at the array of wild flowers in spring and September. Walking, cycling, mountain biking, riding, quads, para gliding and even skiing are all available close by.
Alternatively, why not pay a visit to the picturesque pueblos blancos dotted around the mountainside. Pampaneira is famed for it's handcrafted rugs and pottery as well as it's scenic location in the Poquiera Gorge whilst Trevelez (highest village in Spain) is popular for the locally cured hams dried in the fresh mountain air and provides the starting point for climbing Mulhacen. The stunning architecture and gardens of the Alhambra and Generalife are unmissable but make sure you leave some time for simply relaxing in the sun.
Booking notes
A deposit of 40% is payable with your booking, the balance to be paid 4 weeks prior to arrival.

Everything great. Your house is smashing. Don´t suppose you´d consider selling?
"This is by far the best place I have ever rented and would love to stay again. Thanks so much to Ginny and to Bridie for enabling us to have such a memorable holiday in a fantastic part of Spain."
"An amazing house in a fantastic location……a great place to unwind. Highly recommended."
"We had a fantastic holiday in this lovely house in a totally unspoilt village in the mountains. The house is really comfortable and spacious and has been very tastefully renovated. The pool is great and there are two secluded sunny terraces with outdoor furniture. There is also a great covered area with an outside fire for dining on chillier evenings. The owners had provided all sorts of little extras for us - there was food and wine on arrival - and have taken every care to ensure that their guests have a great time. Thoroughly recommended."
