Guardamar is a delightful Spanish coastal town situated 30 minutes drive from both Alicante and Murcia airports. Surrounded by sand dunes, pine forests and nature reserves it is ideal for beach, walking, cycling and nature holidays. The 10km long blue flag beach is the finest in the Costa Blanca. This unspoilt Spanish town has a wide selection of restaurants with varied cuisines. There is a lively Wednesday street market, shops, bars and supermarkets, a marina, and several golf courses are within a short drive. Situated on the south side of Guardamar, the apartment block itself is in a wide tree-lined pedestrian-only street planted with cacti, oleander and palm trees. This leads down to the lovely, clean, uncrowded beach, Playa Moncayo, only 4 minutes walk away. The development is one of the most sought-after in the area. The apartment's private balcony has a southerly outlook affording good views out to sea. Also the roof terrace offers panoramic views.

Bedrooms: Bedrooms 1 and 2 both with double beds.
A folding single bed is also available.
Bathrooms: The en-suite bathroom to bedroom 1 has bath/shower, wc, bidet and wash basin. There is a second shower room next to bedroom 2 with wc, shower and wash basin.
Kitchen: The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, hob, oven and microwave.
Utility Room: There is a laundry cupboard with washing machine, iron, ironing board and clothes rack.
Living Rooms: The lounge/dining room has a dining table and four chairs, a three-piece suite, TV with UK channels, DVD player and stereo. There is a sideboard, lamps and a coffee table. Sliding patio doors open to a private balcony with table/chairs and sea views.
Other: There is a very large roof terrace shared with the other apartments, though rarely used, with superb views over the dunes and out to sea, as well as along the coast towards the mountains. Would smokers only smoke on the balcony or the roof terrace please.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
The apartment is cleaned prior to your stay and again on your departure. The charge for this, payable to the key holder, is 50 euros. Bedlinen and towels are provided (but not beach towels).

 

Notes on accommodation
The accommodation is comfortable and spacious, with a main living area of approximately 25 feet, plus a wide, private balcony with patio table and chairs. The windows and doors are very secure and the apartment is safe for children. All rooms have south-facing windows but all have shutters or blinds and there are room fans for coolness and comfort. Each bedroom has a comfortable king-size double bed.

Accessibility
The apartment has a lift and there is a ramp from the road down to the apartment entrance. The parking area is very large allowing cars to be parked with plenty of space. A bus runs hourly from outside the nearby hotel into town. The flat rate fare is 80 cents.

Outside
The apartment block is in a wide tree-lined pedestrian-only street planted with cacti, oleander and palm trees. This leads down to the lovely, clean, uncrowded beach, Playa Moncayo. Fabulous swimming pools next to the property are open from June to September and include a children's pool. The access road is very wide with ample parking space.

Coast/Beach
The beach is approximately 300 yards from the apartment. Wide sand dunes with pine forested areas fringe the beach. These are part of the 'Dunes of Guardamar' UNESCO Heritage site, with well-constructed wooden walkways down to the fine sandy beach. The beach is of fine sand and the water is clean. The total length of this blue-flag beach is about 10 kilometres with wooden walkways providing entry points, the nearest being only 3-4 minutes walk from the apartment passing lovely gardens.

Golf
There are several golf courses a short distance away. These include La Marquesa near Rojales (10km), La Finca near Algorfa (17km), Villamartin and Campoamor, both near Villamartin (about 22km).

Special interest holidays
Surrounded by sand-dunes, pine forests and nature reserves, the apartment is ideal for beach, walking, cycling and nature (including bird-watching) holidays. There are three important natural parks nearby. The nearest two are 5-10 minutes drive, with wetland habitats (salt-marsh and salt-lakes) important for many bird species. More detailed information is available on request. Inland the land is fertile being used for cultivation of oranges, lemons and artichokes in particular. You can walk straight out of the apartment and along the beach in either direction for 2-3 miles or you can walk inland through citrus groves.

Travel
The apartment is about thirty minutes drive from both Alicante and Murcia airports. Airport transfers are available at a cost of 30 euros from Alicante and 40 euros from Murcia airports. There is a maximum of four people per transfer. Car hire can be arranged on request. Alternatively, you can hire a car from the airport and the local keyholder will meet you at the apartment. There is plenty of parking close to the apartment.

Distances
The city of Alicante, dominated by its superb castle dating from Moorish times is a lively place with plenty of bars, clubs, restaurants and excellent shopping and is just over 20 miles away. Elche, about 16 miles away, is a lovely town boasting the largest palm forest in Europe and has a beautiful central park and several important buildings to visit as well as good bars and restaurants in the square round the basilica. Guardamar town centre is just over a mile away and an easy walk.

Further details
Guardamar is very well supplied with bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, including several good Chinese and Indian restaurants, as well as plenty of traditional Spanish bars and restaurants, without any feeling of over-commercialisation. There are several supermarkets, the best one being Mercadona in Avenida del Mediterraneo. There is a lively Wednesday street market in the centre of Guardamar and a large Sunday market along the road to Montesinos. There are branches of all the major Spanish banks. There is even a Halifax bank recently opened. There is a Sports and Leisure Centre with swimming pool in the centre of town open all year. There are several natural parks in the area, with excellent bird-watching facilities. More information is available about these on request. Guardamar castle sits perched on a hill overlooking the older part of town and is worth a visit. At the mouth of the river Segura there is a marina. The protected area of the Dunes of Guardamar streches all the way from the river mouth in both directions for several kilometres, the part nearest the town centre, Parque Alfonso III being the most varied and lushly planted. You can stroll along the pathways here for half an hour and hardly see anyone else. Near the centre of town is a lovely park, named after Queen Sofia with ponds, fountains and children's playground. This area, a couple of hundred yards from the town hall square is also one of the best for restaurants and bars. Guardamar offers you every possible sea sport such as sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, underwater diving, canoeing, jet skiing, etc. The Marina de las Dunas at the mouth of the river offers all these as well as 498 moorings. Guardamar has extensive sports facilities, the most important being the “Las Rabosas” Sports Centre and the magnificent Municipal Sports Centre, with its Olympic swimming pool, 3 football pitches, basketball courts, five-a-side soccer pitches, tennis courts, pelota courts.

Booking notes
A £50 non-refundable deposit is required when booking, the balance being due 4 weeks before the arrival date. Longer lets of a month or more are available at a reduced weekly rate. A £100 or 150 euro returnable security deposit is required to cover any accidental damage. This is payable to the keyholder on arrival. It is returned in full at the end of your stay assuming there is no damage or loss.
