Villajoyosa is a typically Spanish seaside town, which has retained its original character and charm. It is located on the Costa Blanca between the historic city of Alicante and the lively commercialised town of Benidorm. It boasts one of the loveliest and best kept beaches in Spain and some of the finest and cheapest seafood served on a splendid promenade.
It is one of the most effortlessly atmospheric little seaside towns you could wish to visit, it is the sort of place that revels in its relative obscurity, the kind of place Spaniards keep quiet about so that they have somewhere civilised to go on holiday themselves. It was featured on the BBC series, Eastenders in August 2000. The town is a much older town than Benidorm and the locals say that it is close enough to Benidorm whilst being far enough away! It is only 10km to Benidorm and the route is filled with olive, carob and almond trees, as well as a number of palms, pines and prickly pears.

There are frequent trains and buses to both these places and the fares are really cheap. Villajoyosa town has a chocolate factory which is worth a visit or two. Villajoyosa is famous for its fiestas and fireworks. These usually take place through the year and if your visit concides with one, you are sure to enjoy it.
Further details
Alphons XIII granted city status to Villajoyosa in 1911.
As well as tourism, Villajoyosa is the home of fishermen and chocolatemakers, a strange combination but both of which are deeply rooted in the city's history.
The original and older part of town has been declared an historic monument.
There are still various bridges remaining from the time of the Romans.
The crumbling multi-coloured houses of the old quarter, which lean together like a drunken film set, have been recognised as the architectural treasure they really are. The gnarled old town of Villajoyosa is an experience well worth a visit on its own, but the big deal here is the beach. Its a beautiful beach (Blue Flag), of golden sands and clear waters, fringed by a
balustraded promenade lined with a series of restaurants and bars whose tables fan out to provide a perfect place to unpeel some garlicky prawns and drink cold beers.

Guest comments
Tony Abbott with his wife and a couple friends who last stayed in it liked it very much and said it is perfect for a tranquil holiday away from the maddening crowd and a perfect beach.
Before Tony, Juliet with her husband and three children says, just the kind of holiday they wanted. Perfect experience of Spanish culture. The house was very comfortable and conveniently situated near the beech. Definitely go there again.
Paul and Maggie Graidner liked it so much that late last year was there second visit. Their comment, 'real Spain hidden away for peaceful holidays.'
