Finca El Abuelo is the perfect place for couples to escape, relax and unwind without compromising on comfort. Set in the mountains of Andalucia close to Estacion de Cortes the Sierra de Grazalema and Alcornocales Parque Natural. Estacion with its own small single track railway gives the opportunity to leave the car behind and visit the neighbouring pueblos, go for a wander, lunch and return 'home'. It is also an ideal base for walking and hiking as we are located close to the GR7 route. If you do not want anything as energetic you could enjoy the scenery, watch the birds (griffon vultures, eagles etc) painting (tuition available if required) read a book (we have plenty) have a massage or simply enjoy a long cool drink and relax! We are approximately 2 hours from Malaga or Sevilla airport, 35km from Ronda, 20 minutes to Gaucin and less than an hour from the coast or Gibraltar and a little further to Marbella.

Accessibility
There are steps down to the pool and also stairs up to breakfast.
Outside
The natural saltwater pool with spacious terraced areas, sunloungers, tables and chairs and pergolas providing plenty of shade also of course the panoramic views and a swing-for grown ups! On the same level of the pool we have a well equipped undercover bar area with relaxing chairs, a large dining table and a ceiling fan where you can enjoy the warm Summer evenings. There is also a further toilet/shower room. Our finca has 1 acre of terraces with lots of fruit trees including pomegranate, apricot, almond, orange, lemon and fig to name a few and lots wild flowers in the spring. When possible we have home grown salads and herbs including rocket, chervil, basil, cherry tomatoes, bay leaves, olive oil flavoured with wild oregano, lemon verbena tea and delicious homemade ice cream!
Coast/Beach
We are less than an hour from the coast, a little further to Gibraltar, Estepona or one and a half hours to Puerto Banus, San Pedro or Marbella.
Golf
There are many golf courses an hour or so away on the coast so if you feel like a day golfing.
Special interest holidays
It is possible to arrange painting tuition or treat yourself to massage.
Travel
Malaga is the main airport 2 hours drive - Gibraltar 1 hour or Jerez 1 1/2 hours and Seville 2 hours.
Distances
Estacion is 5 minutes away and Cortes de la Frontera is 10 minutes from our finca. Gaucin 20 minutes with it's mountain top setting, a trip to Ronda 35km with it's amazing 'El Tajo Gorge' dividing the centre & Spain's oldest bullring takes you past Cueva de la Pileta, rugged limestone landscapes, cornfields & vineyards.
Further details
The local villages have amenities such as banks, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. It is not unusual to see a horse tethered outside a bar waiting to take the owner home! Cortes is a friendly traditional pueblo blanco with it's own bullring, borders a vast cork forest the 'Alcornocales Natural Park'. Pack mules are still used to bring the cork out of the forest. Tree heather grows in this forest and is harvested to make brezo for the thatching of sun shades and screens for gardens that are so popular nowadays. The roots of the tree heather are used for making briar smoking pipes. The Sierra de Grazelema was declared the first natural park in Andalucia and is one of Spains most ecologically outstanding areas designated a Unesco Biosphere reserve in 1977. Local produce includes goats cheese, preserved chestnuts, chorizo, venison, wild boar, wine and the famous 'pata negra' preserved ham. If you would like to take the train to Granada or Seville and stay for a night or 2 taking only light luggage you are welcome to leave the rest with us and we will take you to the station (5 minutes) and pick you up on your return.
