Can Canet is a traditional Catalan “masia", situated within its own 50 hectares, with far reaching views across the magnificent wooded countryside and on to the coast. Private and secluded but only 5km from the local town of Cassa de la Selva, which provides all amenities. The house is decorated in the local style, with spacious accommodation. The rooms have high ceilings and are cool in summer, but cosy in the winter with central heating and log fires. There is approximately 800 sq.m. of living space, with a large kitchen, 2 sitting rooms, dining room, 7 spacious double bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. There is a covered terrace and a lot of outside space for al fresco dining and relaxing. The infinity pool has fabulous views and a separate Jacuzzi, shower, WC, kitchen area and barbecue. There is a 2 bedroom caretaker’s annex which is only available to rent to the same group staying in the main house. The garden terraces face due south with fruit trees and ponds. B&B also available.

Bedrooms: All 7 bedrooms of main house have double beds (we also have 4 single beds which can be swopped to suit). 4 bedrooms share 2 bathrooms with interconnecting doors. In the additional annex there are 2 bedrooms, 1 double with en suite, 1 with bunk beds.
Bathrooms: There are 5 bathrooms, all of which are en suite, 3 have baths, 1 of which is a Jacuzzi and all have showers.
Kitchen: The kitchen has a large range style gas cooker, dishwasher and microwave. In the additional annex there is a small kitchen with gas cooker and fridge/freezer.
Utility Room: Utility room with American style fridge/freezer which has a water, ice and crushed ice dispenser. There is a washing machine.
Living Rooms: Sitting area with open fireplace, television, hi fi, and UK satellite TV. In the additional annex there is a sitting room and balcony with pretty views of the countryside and a flight of steps up to the swimming pool complex.

Bedrooms: All 7 bedrooms of main house have double beds (we also have 4 single beds which can be swopped to suit). 4 bedrooms share 2 bathrooms with interconnecting doors. Bathrooms: There are 5 bathrooms, all of which are en suite, 3 have baths, 1 of which is a Jacuzzi and all have showers.
Either Full English breakfast or continental breakfasts can be served depending on preference, out in the shade of the arches or in the main dining room. Guests are welcome to use the swimming pool and gardens throughout the day, or snooze in the sofas in the sitting room. Sandwiches can be prepared for lunch if guests do not wish to stray far from the house, and evening meals can also be provided by prior arrangement.

 

Notes on accommodation
There is central heating throughout the main house. The rooms are light and airy and have superb views. They are furnished for the most part with Catalan antiques, apart from the comfortable sofas! There is a large balcony on the east side of the house and a lovely traditional Catalan arched porch which is ideal for dining. Guests can dine in the evenings in the 20 metre long porch enjoying the fabulous views down the valley towards the sea through the archways, or swim in the floodlight pool whilst waiting for the food to cook on the barbecue!
The seperate annexe is availble to hire to anyone hiring the main house if they wish to add more accommodation. It is only available to hire to a party which is already hiring the main house. The annexe consists of two bedrooms, one with bunk beds, and a bathroom, small kitchen area and sitting room and is linked to rhe main house by a short passageway above the garage. We have had a lot of children staying here and they all absolutely love it.

Accessibility
It would be difficult to accommodate anyone with mobility problems as all the bathrooms are on the first floor.

Outside
The swimming pool is private, and is 12m x 4m approx. It is 2.3m deep at the deep end so fine for diving, there is a wide step at the shallow end which is fun for supervised children. It is floodlight in the evenings and the large barbecue and shower area is next to the pool and the jacuzzi. There is a wide lawned area around the pool, and a paved shady area furnished with Loungers. The complex has a large shower, WC, sink and barbecue fireplace.
The porch has a very large table which can seat 16 or more elbows permitting! Chairs are provided. There is also a large swing hammock on the lower garden terraces.
The swimming pool complex is private, and is above the house and as the house is built into the hillside there are 4 terraces, we have had many extremely happy children staying but small children have to be supervised. The countryside around the house is perfect for walking, or mountain biking, it is a haven for wildlife with birds of prey, deer and wild boar.

Coast/Beach
The nearest coast is 20 minutes drive, or 23 kilometres away at Sant Feliu de Guixols, There are 4 lovely beaches in pretty bays between Sant Feliu and Platja d'Aro, all wide and cleaned daily, with bars and cafes, and a beautiful coastal walk. The water is clear and sailling boat and pedal boat hire is available.

Golf
There are at least 8 18-hole golf courses within a 30 minute drive of the house, the nearest being Club de Golf Mas Nou, just outside Playa d Áro, and the championship course, Club de Golf Costa Brava at Santa Cristina, 15 minutes away.

Travel
The nearest airport is Girona, sometimes spelt Gerona, it is Ryanairs southern European base and there are several different firms offering car hire, which is essential, from the airport. If driving, the house is 800 miles from Le Havre, with nearly all the driving on motorways or dual carriageway.

Distances
Cassa de la Selva is the nearest town, it is a busy place with banks, health centre, weekly market, supermarkets and restaurants. It is 4.5 kms away. Girona, 15 kms inland, is a beautiful medieval city on the banks of the Rio Ter, with a spectacular cathedral, and very good shopping area. Sant Feliu de Guixols is a pretty coastal resort with harbour. The Dali Museum at Figueras is approx. 40 kms away, and there are many very well preserved medieval villages within half an hour's drive.

Further details
All the major banks have branches in Cassa de la Selva, there are many restaurants to choose from within a 10-15 minutes drive from the house, all the basic requirements can be met in Cassa, but for good shops either head for Girona or Platja d'Aro on the coast.
Boat hire and scuba diving schools proliferate on the coast, and the renowned Islas Medas are only 35 minutes drive away, an international marine conservation area which is open only to divers. Golf clubs abound, and there are 2 local, good quality riding schools, our neighbour will also take experienced riders out for hacks in our local countryside. For anyone who likes cycling, the hill leading up to our house is famous for being one of Lance Armstrong's training routes, and is always busy with cyclists. The Gavarres, the national reserve which the house is in, is ideal for hiking or mountain biking, 250kms of cork forests with only 2 roads traversing it. We are 1 hour's drive from some beautiful Pyrennean mountain villages, and 1 hour and a half from the nearest ski resort.
