Yegen, a typical Alpujarran village, lies high in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. Above the village the Park rises to the peak of Mulhacen, the highest mountain in Spain, and is a much loved area for walkers and naturalists. Our house, in the heart of the village, has wonderful views across the valley of the Guadalfeo and the Contraviesa mountains towards the Mediterranean. The village is famous as that of which Hispanist and author, Gerald Brenan, wrote in his book "South from Granada" in the 1950s and attracts many visitors to the small museum and the house in which he lived. Our apartment is completely self-contained with its own entrance and a delightful bougainvillea-shaded terrace. We have aimed to keep the furnishings traditional in character, providing everything you might need to make your stay comfortable. Bed linen and towels are provided together with a complimentary welcome basket of groceries including, of course, a bottle of Spanish wine!

Owner profile

About the owner
My husband and I retired to this part of Spain 8 years ago - and we're agreed that it is one of the best decisions we ever made. This area is stunningly beautiful and a never ending source of inspiration. With over 300 days of sunshine a year you can be fairly confident of good weather. Imagine sitting outside one of the many pleasant bars, enjoying a drink with a free tapa, with a glorious view of the mountains in front of you. We think it takes some beating!

Year purchased: 2003

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We bought a house in the Alpujarra simply because we found the beauty and tranquillity of the area overwhelming. The views from the village's position on the lower slopes of the Sierra Nevada are outstanding and constantly change according to the light and weather. Life here is unhurried and stress-free, providing an ideal atmosphere for relaxation and reflection.

Unique benefits of the property
We have tried to make our apartment as comfortable and convenient as possible for our guests. We have also tried to retain all the traditional characteristics of this old Alpujarran house whilst also providing modern facilities to make a holiday here comfortable. I have sometimes had to stay in functional but characterless accommodation when on holiday, but I much prefer to stay somewhere I can simply relax and enjoy without having to go out - and I hope my guests feel that way too. We can't offer a garden but we hope the pretty shaded terrace provides a nice place for our guests to relax.
