Cortijo la Mata is a traditional stone built Andalusian farmhouse, built in the year 1911, which has been converted into 2 completely separate cottages. Situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, yet only 10 minutes by car from the Alhambra Palace and the city of Granada, the house is located just outside the old Moorish village of Monachil in an area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by olive, almond and cherry trees. For those who are looking for a complete escape to the Andalusian countryside yet want to take advantage of all that the city of Granada has to offer plus take in the ski slopes of Spain's highest mountain range the location is ideal.

Notes on prices
Prices are independent of season and are standard all year round. For weekly stays changeover day is on Saturdays although this can be flexible outwith the Summer months. Babies and toddlers using a cot free of charge. We do have space for larger groups – please ask. Only other costs are heating supplement during months of Winter.

Notes on accommodation
Both houses have full central heating and everything necessary for a comfortable stay. This includes bedlinen, duvets, towels, satelite TV (free to air channels such as BBC), crockery, tableware, cutlery, fridge/freezer, electric or gas cooker, washing machine and drying facilities. Sorry, no pets.
Outside
Fully furnished terraces and patios with spectacular views across the Monachil valley. Well maintained swimming pool with sunloungers shared between both properties. Gardens and property's own private mountainside with paths leading up to the surrounding hills and valleys. Private enclosed parking.
Coast/Beach
Granada is well know in Spain for the possibility of skiing in the morning and sunbathing in the afternoon. Beach resorts such as Salobreña and Almuñecar can be reached in 45 minutes by car from the village.
Skiing
Sierra Nevada ski station is only 25 minutes from the house with the added advantage that there is a separate road from the village to the resort hence avoiding much of the Granada city traffic.
Special interest holidays
From mountain biking, rock climbing and handgliding to flamenco lessons, goats cheese making demos and cookery classes we can organize almost anything!
Apart from the local Monachil area itself the main attraction is without doubt Granada - the city of the Alhambra, Albayzin and the gypsy caves of Sacromonte.
Travel
Granada airport is a 20 minutes drive and Malaga airport 90 minutes. Car hire is recommended for those who wish to explore further afield. However, the cortijo is within 10 minutes easy walking distance from the village and then only a short bus journey from Granada.

The village has several small and interesting shops and restaurants and of course Granada has an endless list of places to visit.
