Casa Alta is a comfortable, four bedroom house in the village of Nigüelas offering views overlooking the village and the Lecrin valley with its olive and almond trees spreading out in the distance. The Lecrin valley runs between the fabled city of Granada and the tropical coast at Salobreña. The house is in the highest and quiet part of the village with the foothills of the Sierra Nevada rising to the rear of the property providing a backdrop of dramatic beauty. Eagles fly above the rocky terrain, and you can walk among the orange and lemon groves. With its light and airy feel, balcony, roof terrace, swimming pool and close proximity to the amenities of Niguelas, the house offers privacy without being cut off from Spanish life.

Changeover day
Changeover Saturdays. Arrival after 4 and departure before 10. Flexibility on changeover days and times possible as are short breaks. Enquire for details. On arrival you will be met by English neighbours who can advise on the house and surrounding area.

Bedrooms: Down stairs are 3 double bedrooms and one single bedroom with bunk beds. Single bedroom only has window onto games room.
All bedrooms have underfloor heating.
Bathrooms: Two bathrooms. One has bath/shower over, wc. and contains washing machine. The other has shower cubicle and wc. Both have underfloor heating.
Kitchen: Kitchen has breakfast bar and French windows to front terrace. Very well equipped. Large fridge freezer, dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob, microwave, kettle, toaster.
Living Rooms: Very large L shaped, open plan living area. Views from sitting area which has sofas and chairs, wood-burning stove, CD/radio, DVD,TV (with UK channels and radio). Dining area seats 8. French windows from dining area lead to rear terrace and swimming pool.
Other: Games room with large table tennis table. Ironing board and iron.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Bed linen and towels included and changed weekly. Pool is cleaned at least once a week.

 

Notes on accommodation
In summer the house, being at 3000 feet, is pleasantly cool at night. In the day there is always somewhere to sit in the shade. In winter the underfloor heating downstairs and the wood burning stove upstairs makes the house pleasantly warm. The terraces and pool mean that toddlers will require supervision.
The house is no smoking.

Accessibility
There is a very short but fairly stiff walk up from the village although it it is easy to drive up and park outside the house.

Outside
The private pool is 3.5 x 6 metres and not overlooked. The surrounding patio has plenty of sun loungers and easy chairs. There is a cold water shower by the pool. The front terrace has a table and plenty of seating. There is also a very large roof terrace which has another table and chairs, and a barbecue.

Coast/Beach
Coast is 30 minutes away and it is about 35 minutes drive to the beach at Salobrena.

Golf
There are several accessible golf courses including a new 18 hole course about 15 minutes drive away.

Skiing
Europe's most southerly ski resort, Sol y Nieve, is about 45 minutes drive away on good roads and there is a good variety of runs. Because of the high altitude, skiing is usually possible from November to April.

Travel
Granada airport served by two low cost airlines, is 25 minutes, Malaga about 1.75 hours and Seville Airport 2.5 hours away. Although there is a good local bus service to the coast and Granada, car hire is recommended.

Distances
The beautiful and vibrant city of Granada with its magnificent Alhambra Palace, is only 20 minutes away. The coast is about 30 minutes with good beaches at Salobrena. Malaga is about 1.75 hours away and Seville about 2.5 hours drive.

Further details
Niguelas has a population of about 1500. It is very old (the church dates from the 16th century) with narrow winding streets. It has two bakeries, a small fish market, a fishmonger, a pharmacy, a number of small supermarkets, a number of bars, all of which serve free tapas. Some of the bars are set round two pedestrianised squares. There are two restaurants. Everything is within about 10 minutes walk of the house.The village also has a small museum, a music school and a cultural centre where the mayor often pays for free concerts. There is a part-time bank. Horse riding can be arranged in the village. There are some great walks through the local countryside and mountains and some of these start in the village such as the path from the village which leads to the famous GR7 route which runs from Algeciras to Athens. In the summer it is possible to climb Mulhacen, Spain's highest peak at over 3500 metres, starting from the ski resort.
Durcal, 2km away, is a medium sized town with all facilities including a weekly market. English language DVD's and books are available in Durcal.

Booking notes
A 25% deposit is required to confirm the booking. This is retained as a breakage deposit which will be returned within 7 days of the end of your holiday, providing there is no significant damage.
The full amount of the holiday should be paid 3 weeks before commencement of holiday.
