Casa Lorca was made for family holidays. A lovely villa looking out to sea in a small exclusive development. The large communal pool has private access directly onto the beach which stretches away in the distance and is up to 300 metres wide so it never gets crowded. Minutes away is the fishing village of Villaricos and down the road is the small port of Garrucha with its fish market and harbourside restaurants. The family resort of Mojacar and its ancient white hilltop town is nearby. Beyond is the Cabo de Gata National Park with coves and empty beaches. Inland are the Sierra Cabrera mountains. Visit the markets in the local villages and small towns and nearby are shops and supermarkets. There are great restaurants, tennis, a water park, boat trips, riding and four excellent golf courses all within 15 minutes away. Perhaps our best recommendation is that Casa Lorca is usually fully booked each season from Easter to October. See our website (link below).

Notes on accommodation
Having had years of family holidays ourselves we have tried to provide everything needed for a relaxing stay. For example the kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfortable and there is air-conditioning (a must from June-September). Casa Lorca was constructed in 2003. It and the adjoining small development are about the best in the area. To be comfortable during the heat of the long summer months you need to be by the sea. Casa Lorca is. Nowhere else in the area are there new villas of this standard right on the beach. The layout of Casa Lorca suits small or large parties as the two lower ground floor bedrooms, bathroom and living room [all with natural light] are effectively self-contained. The layout is great for privacy from each other if you are two groups of friends or to let the children or teenagers have a place of their own where they can watch DVD's to their hearts content or play their music on the CD (fortunately it's pretty soundproof!).

Outside
Outside is a large dining terrace with table and chairs. The garden is full of palms, colourful flowers and plants such as jasmine and lavender for scent on the evening air.
There is a large barbecue and a table with seating. If you get fed up with feeding the tribe there is Antonio's beach bar/restaurant open all summer just a couple of hundred metres up on the beach where you can get everything from a good meal to burgers and ice creams all at a very reasonable price [which is why all the locals use it].
The development consists of just 17 villas facing each other [8 on each side] across a small gated access road so there is no traffic to worry about. Also the beach access is gated so little ones can't vanish. Casa Lorca sits at the head of the line looking directly out to sea.
The complex is usually quiet as almost no other villas rent out and all but one are holiday homes. At any time half or more are often empty. This means there is usually plenty of space in the large pool!

Coast/Beach
Casa Lorca is on Vera Playa beach which is the best in the area and runs right down to port of Garrucha. It is wide, sandy and never crowded. Mojacar's resort beaches follow on. They too have beach bars/restaurants to enjoy. Beyond is the Cabo de Gata National Park through which the small coast road wanders past stretches of untouched beaches.
To the east of Casa Lorca are the tiny twin harbours of Villaricos. Beyond the village the quiet country road follows the sea past coves and sandy bays.

Golf
There are 4 excellent courses within 5-15 mins drive from Casa Lorca. If you visit our website (see below) there are links to all of them. Desert Springs [18 hole par 72] [5 mins] is built to full USGA specifications and hosts top tournaments. The clubhouse is luxurious [as is everything here] with a fine restaurant. Val del Este [18 hole par 71][10 mins] lies up a little farm road which brings you to a splendid complex out in the country. Marina Golf [18 hole par 72][15 mins] is in a spectacular position in the foothills above Mojacar so that 9 holes overlook the Mediterranean and 9 look for miles across the countryside. Cortijo Grande [9 holes with plans to extend but, being Spain, goodness knows when][15 mins] is in a beautiful setting amongst the orange groves and foothills of the Sierra Cabrera mountains. There is an old pink farmhouse nearby with an excellent restaurant run by a couple of 'pink' gentlemen so players are advised to put their balls away before dining.

Travel
Airports. Alicante 2 hours. Murcia 1.5 hours. Almeria 45 mins. Times obviously depend on how fast you drive but these are what we do them in. Whichever airport you arrive at you will be coming one way or the other along the E15 motorway for most of the journey so it's easy driving. The junction for Casa Lorca is 15 mins from the villa. We will provide route directions. Check flights and car hire through the links on our website.

Distances
Villaricos - 5 minutes.
A fishing village with 2 harbours, some small restaurants, a beach and where scuba diving and boat trips can be enjoyed.

Mojacar - 15 minutes.
The beach resort has many small bars and restaurants by the sea. Its old white hilltop town has wonderful views out across the Mediterranean.

Further details
Around Casa Lorca - Apart from the pool and the beaches of course. If you are looking for high-rise hotels and package tourists who enjoy too much lager for lunch you will be disappointed. The area is carefully developed so as to avoid the mistakes that have blighted the more well known Costas. That's why the Spanish holiday here themselves. We provide information about activites, restaurants and places to go. For children there is the Wild West Theme Park about 45 minutes drive through pleasant countryside. It's made from the sets of real Westerns filmed in the area and there are daily shoot-outs on Main Street. Dads love it. There is a water park open in summer which they can walk to. Also go-karting in nearby Garrucha. For teens and twenties there are clubs and bars in Mojacar (no 'yob' element and late taxis will get them home). There is golf, tennis and riding. Boat trips go from the nearby harbours of Villaricos and Garrucha during the holiday seasons and you can go scuba diving from Villaricos. You can explore the countryside, mountains and the National Park where the small road through it offers lovely views as it winds along through the hills by the sea. There are weekly markets to browse in selling farm produce and the warren of ancient streets in the white hill town of Mojacar Pueblo to wander through. Each town and village has an annual fiesta. Go if you hear of one. Everyone, young and old, stays up until dawn. Eating out ranges from Antonio's wonderfully scruffy, friendly and inexpensive summer beach restaurant on the sand just up from the villa [book for lunch at weekends as all the locals know it], some little places in Villaricos, fish restaurants on the harbour in Garrucha, lovely old places in the countryside and many other choices. For shopping there is a supermarket a couple of minutes drive away. It is stocked with everything you may need including a very good selection of fresh produce, cheeses, hams, meats and a good fish counter.

Owner profile

The better half.....

About the owner
Brian and Anne Sharman have owned Casa Lorca since it was built in 2003. Brian is a barrister and Anne is a teacher. We live in Dorset.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought Casa Lorca as a holiday home and to rent out. With both uses in mind, and having gone on villa holidays over the years when the children were growing up, we knew the pluses and minuses to look out for when choosing a place to buy for ourselves. Probably like you we had some good experiences and some not so good such as the main road at one place being between us and the beach and an all-night disco nearby at another - the owners' adverts forgot to mention these little details. With Casa Lorca we felt there were no minuses. It is relaxing and child-friendly which means that parents can enjoy it too. If you want to ask any questions before booking we will be happy to answer them and we give you a fact sheet of places to eat and to go and things to do to help you enjoy your stay.

Unique benefits of the property
The property has five proper double bedrooms with a mix of single and double beds and four bathrooms which means it suits either a large family, groups of friends or two smaller families who want to holiday together. Items for young children such as cots and hi-chairs are available. The house is yards from the beach and right next to it is the pool area. Casa Lorca is on a small development of similar villas and is quiet and relaxing. Most of the other villas are used as holiday homes and only visited occasionally by their owners so even in high summer it is never busy. The whole area is made for family holidays and there are no package tourists or noisy discos nearby!
