Butterfly cottage is a cosy, pretty cottage, with original features and beautiful views across the Andalucian hills. The perfect rural retreat for 2, comfortable & rustic with a small cottage garden for alfresco dining, sunny terrace for sunbathing & a swimming pool for a refreshing dip on hot summer days. The cottage is located just outside the tiny village of Los Ventorros, set on a south facing hillside with views to the village & the valley, full of olive & almond trees, below. Comares, an old Moorish fortress & charming hilltop pueblo blanco, is the highest village in the Axarquia region (approximately 700m above sea level) & just 5 minutes drive or a 30 minute walk from the cottage. Comares is made up of narrow twisting streets leading from the central plaza where you will find local bars, shops & a bank to cater for your daily requirements. Driving south, passing fields of avocados, mangos & lemons, Torre del Mar is the nearest sandy beach resort, some 35 minutes by car.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. Discounts available for bookings of 3 weeks or longer. Firewood and gas extra. For rentals during winter firewood is extra, we can supply this. Please ask about long lets in low season. During Christmas, New Year and Easter the cost per week is based on our Mid Season rate.
Changeover day
Flexible, please just ask. Check in time is after 5pm and we ask for you to please try and depart no later than 10am.

Notes on accommodation
Butterfly cottage is an old cottage that has been cleverly restored to provide comfortable accommodation for 2 with lots of original features including old doors, shuttered windows and tiled floors. Please note that the cottage and its garden terraces are very private and not overlooked but discreetly attached to the side of Casa Vieja Ref. S623, a 2 bedroom country villa. The pool and jacuzzi are shared with guests of the villa when occupied. Sorry, no pets. Room fans are available upon request when booking for 15 euros per week. A highchair and cot are available but need to be reserved when booking, any other baby/child equipment you may require can be rented locally. For winter rentals firewood is extra, which you can purchase from us if you wish. For long term rentals firewood and gas is extra, we can supply both.
Outside
The old front door is approached via the established pretty cottage garden with table and chairs below a shady almond tree. The established garden features a large pool (irregular shape 10m x 6m approximately and 1m/1.5m deep). Large sunny terraces with sunloungers and barbecue. The pool/jacuzzi are open from April–October.
La Casita de las Mariposas (Butterfly Cottage) is approached from the Malaga road down a short, driveway – approximately 300m from the road. Safe Parking is very near on a gravel driveway.
Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean coast is a 30 minute scenic drive through the countryside passing groves of Avocados and Citrus fruits. Torre del Mar is a very Spanish resort with a wide choice of restaurants, especially fish and seafood. The wide sandy beach is over a mile long and peppered with small bar/restaurants. Walk along the promenade to the fishing harbour and marina at Caleta de Velez - or spend a day at the water park nearby. A fun resort for all ages!
Golf
There are 3 public courses within a 1 hour drive. Baviera 18 hole course has good facilities and is right near the beach. Details on request.
Skiing
Ski at the Sierra Nevada,near Granada city - 90 mins. Ask for info.
Travel
Malaga airport is 1 hour drive. Granada Airport 1.5 hours drive. A car is required unless the local bar and shop are all you want to visit. Or you are very keen walkers! (A taxi from the airport can be arranged upon request). Car rental is inexpensive with many companies to choose from. Several budget airlines fly to Malaga and Granada, book online and save money. We can help with car hire which will entitle you to a 15% discount.
Distances
Los Ventorros hamlet is a 5 minute walk. Bar/restaurant and shop. Comares is 5 mins by car or a 30 minute walk. Granada and Alhambra Palace approx 90 minutes by car (you must book for the Alhambra Palace in advance). Malaga City centre takes 1 hour by car - through the Montes de Malaga National Park. Nerja and its famous caves and beaches - Under 1 hour by car.
Further details
Local activities include walking, mountain biking, horse- riding (English spoken), birdwatching and swimming! Comares village, an old Moorish settlement, its typically Andalucian with steep narrow streets and a relaxed attitude to life. Village shops will cater for basic everyday needs and there are several bars serving good tapas, meals and local wine.
You will find a small shop selling fresh local produce and fresh bread, a bank with cash machine, tobacconist and pharmacy. Town facilities including a modern shopping centre, cinemas, street market, water park and go karts are found in Velez Malaga, around 30 minutes drive. For exploring Andalucia La Casita de las Mariposas makes a good country base for visiting the most popular sights. Granada and the Alhamba Palace is just over 1 hour away by car. Seville is well worth a visit at around 2 hours drive. Cordoba is a similar drive and Malaga is just 1 hour away by car (bus also available) and is a city of culture, beaches and great shopping. The Sierra Nevada ski resort is just a short drive from the city of Granada.
Booking notes
You are welcome to make a provisional booking for 24 hours while flights etc are booked. A 25% non refundable deposit is requested to confirm all bookings, payable in euros or UK pounds. Please ensure you have the relevant travel insurance you require and an up to date E1 11 card for all travelling. Please also ensure you have enough petrol in your car as the nearest station from the house is about a 20 minute drive. We also recommend you bring some mosquito repellent.
