Further details
From the highway you drive through olive and almond groves to Nigüelas, with in the background (in winter with snow) the mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada. It is a village with approx. 1150 inhabitants, situated against a Sierra Nevada mountain slope. Niguelas is an authentic Spanish village, where you can still enjoy rural calm, far away from your stressful life. It has white houses with balconies full of flowers, narrow streets, an old (16th century) olivemill/museum and houses dating back to the Moorish time. The town hall, situated in a beautiful 16th century mansion with patio, has a small romantic garden where you sit in the cool shade. There is also a music school which regularly gives concerts. In September there is a 10-day during fiesta (in honour of the Virgin of Angustias). When there is money left at the end of the fiesta, the mayor treats everyone with paella, cooked in a giant pan on the church square. There are beautiful walks from the village to the Parque Sierra Nevada, the GR7- route passes through town. The Parque Sierra Nevada border is a couple of hundred meters away from Casa Espalanda. There is also a possibility to make, under escort of the local barkeeper, beautiful horseriding trips in the mountains (also see activities). There is a good bus connection to Granada City, a couple of times per day a bus goes to the centre of Granada. In Niguelas there are 2 small supermarkets, 2 bakeries, a fish shop, a pharmacy, 6 bars, most with terras, (with mostly free tapas, also see food and drink) and 2 restaurants. Casa Espalanda also offers breakfast, tapas, drinks and dinners.

Guest comments
Thank you for your kindness and the nice days we have had here. This was placed just right for us, the coast to the south and the higher mountains to northeast, so we could change between the busy life at the coast one day and walking in the mountains the next. We had some nice evenings in your little town enjoying to see the life of the local people. The dinner you served us last night was excellent, maybe Michelin should drop by! Hanne & Torben, Denmark

We think you have all the ingredients needed for a very successful life here – empathy with your guests; an uncompromising commitment to high standards, an understanding of and sympathy with the Spanish culture and traditions of which you are now, happily, a part, a strong ethic for hard work and a cheerful, optimistic approach to your great adventure. We wish you well and hope we meet again. We really appreciate your help in turning this special time for us into something really memorable. Brian & Chris Fellowes
