Cortijo La Saladilla is located in the province of Almeria in the northern part of Andalucia in the Los Velez valley. The house sits amongst almond and olive groves with the mountain ranges of Sierra Maria, Maimon and Sierra de las Estancias nearby. The area offers an opportunity to relax and appreciate it´s natural beauty. The property is close to the A92 giving easy access to all major routes.

Notes on prices
Rental prices include gas (butane), electricity and wood for the log burner.
Payment can be made either by cheque or bank transfer.
Changeover day
Our normal changeover day is midday Saturday. However, we are flexible and would ask that you contact us with your requirements.
Accommodation
| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 with double bed and lounge area. Bedroom 2 with twin beds. |
| Bathrooms: | The bathroom is located on the ground floor of the property. It is spacious and has a bath (with overhead shower), toilet, hand basin and bidet. |
| Kitchen: | The kitchen is well equipped with gas hob and cooker, fridge, washing machine, microwave, iron and ironing board, electric kettle and toaster. |
| Living Rooms: | The open plan kitchen / dining area and comfortably furnished lounge are on the ground floor. The lounge has a sofa bed that converts to a double bed. A video player, DVD player, Spanish satellite TV and stereo player are provided. |
| Other: | The cottage has a traditionally tiled Andalucian style private courtyard. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Towels and bed linen are provided and changed weekly. Should you require nursery equipment (highchair, cot, etc) we can hire locally on your behalf. A welcome pack is provided containing immediate essentials appropriate to your time of arrival. |
Notes on accommodation
La Cabana is a separate cottage to the main house and is over 100 years old. It retains much of its original character and features: uneven steps, low doorways, beamed ceilings and the original animal hanging rings in the ceiling.

The property is not suitable for people with mobility problems.
Outside
At Cortijo La Saladilla there is a shady pine terrace and two other open terraces overlooking a rambla (dry riverbed) and farmland, a petanque (boule) area, a planted garden (with real grass) and a swimming pool (7 x 5 metres). As the pool is 2 metres deep it is not suitable for non-swimmers without aids and supervision. These facilities are available for use at any time during your stay.
We have five dogs on the property (all of which are friendly, if not a little enthusiastic about people), two cats, chickens and one horse - just in case of allergies !
Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean is approximately 45 minutes drive away with the popular costal resorts of Aguilas, Bolnuevo, Mazarron, Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Nijar providing a range of sandy beaches and rocky coves.
Golf
Golf courses are all within a forty minute drive located in the Vera, Mojacar and Roquetas de Mar areas. Also, the only desert course in Europe (by Peter McEvoy) is located at Desert Springs.
Skiing
Skiing is available in the resort of Sierra Nevada located two hours drive from Velez Rubio. During the drive to the resort you will experience breathtaking scenery. From the top of the Pico de Veleta peak (3,396 metres), skiers can see across the Mediterranean to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.
The resort has advanced snow making facilities (if there were to be a lack of snow) and numerous runs of varying difficulty. The season usually runs from late November to early March.
Special interest holidays
We are able to offer the hire of mountain bikes. Basic tuition in the use of airguns and archery equipment is available on site.
There are numerous walks in the immediate area, in the mountains and the valleys. We´ll be happy to 'point you in the right direction'.
We are happy to provide lunches, evening meals and BBQs (see price panel) should you require these.
Travel
Velez Rubio is within easy driving distance of a number of airports - Alicante (1 1/2 hours), San Xavier, Murcia (1 1/2 hours), Almeria (2 hours). For those travelling into Spain on Non-European flights Madrid (5 hours).
Further details
Velez Rubio is situated inland only one hour´s drive from the Costa Almeria and two hours from the ski resort of Granada. It sits at the foot of a fabulous mountain and boasts numerous buildings of great architectural importance.
Velez Rubio is home to a colourful market held weekly. There are also many restaurants offering a variety of excellent, good value food in charming surroundings. The business are mostly family run and offer a friendly and personal service. Velez Rubio also has good local amenitites such as a medical centre, supermarkets, theatre /cinema and a large public swimming pool surrounded by trees with an adjoining bar and restaurant.
Numerous activities are on offer within the local area including: paragliding, climbing, orienteering, horse riding and hiking. Enquiries can be made on your behalf should you wish.
Sites of interest (all within a two hour drive) include Alhambra Palace (Granada), Mini Hollywood, Western Leone and Fort Bravo (Tabernas - the only desert in Europe), Mining Caves (Sorbas), Castle (The Fortress of the Sun, Lorca), Water Park (Parque Acuatico, Vera). The historic cities of Almeria, Murcia, Lorca and Huercal Overa offer much in the way of museums and historical buildings.

A deposit of 50% is required to secure a reservation with the balance payable four weeks prior to arrival.

As the property is located some distance from the local town and all tourist sites, car hire is a necessity.

After battling through Almeria´s heavist fall of snow in over 30 years eventually we did arrive at La Cabana ! Annie and Geoff´s welcome was a ´rosy glow´in the beautiful winter wonderland of Fuente Grande, as was the large glass of vino tinto in front of the cheerful log fire each evening.
