We bought 'Mas Marnic' because we loved its setting, up in the mountain foothills with views over the Bay of Roses in northern Catalonia. The villa is adjacent to an old Roman pathway which winds its way up the Serra de Rodes Mountains where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. The outlook is uninterrupted from the hills in the East, over the Bay to the South and back to the Pyrenees in the West. Local English builders completed refurbishments for us with a new fully fitted Habemat kitchen incorporating quartz worktops and built-in appliances, new en-suite shower room and family bathroom, and new double glazed windows throughout. There are air-conditioning units in the bedrooms and the villa is centrally heated for the cooler months. Equipment includes TV, DVD and hi-fi. All the furnishings were new for 2007. Outside is a pool and large terrace area for sunbathing and admiring the views, together with a covered and sheltered dining area and BBQ.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday with departure by 10am and arrival after 4pm.

| Living Rooms: | Two comfortable 3-seater leather sofas, glass coffee and lamp tables, TV, DVD/Hi-Fi, glass dining table with 6 leather chairs. Some CDs, English books and games. A baby's high chair is available. |
| Other: | There is a covered outside dining space on the terrace leading off the living room for those 'al fresco' suppers, with a built in barbecue. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
The property is provided with all pillows, duvets and one clean set of linen and towels per stay. Beach/pool towels are not provided. Cleaning is carried out prior to each let. |
Notes on accommodation
Important note: The swimming pool has no shallow end and is a constant depth of some 2m. It is therefore not suitable for young children or non-swimmers and extreme care should be taken by all visitors.

Accessibility
The villa and pool are all on one level but there are 5 steps to negotiate up to the villa front door.
Outside
The swimming pool is 9m x 4.4m narrowing to 3.2m and has lights set in the side for that night time dip. The private and sheltered terrace is equipped with sun beds, dining table and chairs, cold shower, a barbecue and ample lighting.
Coast/Beach
Beaches in Roses are some 5 minutes drive away and those in Empuriabrava are about 10 minutes drive.
Golf
Peralada Golf Club is about 10 minutes drive away and open all year:- 18 holes 5990 metres, 9 pitch and putt holes, driving range. It is for players of any standard and is surrounded by a prestigious residential development, but with wonderful views to the Pyrenees.
Skiing
We understand that the skiing resort of Capradon is about 1 hour's drive away in Andorra.
Travel
Gerona Airport is the closest and is modern with good car rental facilities. It is an easy 50 minute drive, mostly motorway (toll), to the villa. Alternatively, Perpignan and Barcelona airports are respectively 1 and 2 hours drive from Roses. We mostly drive down through France - Autoroutes are much more pleasant than English motorways! - or take the Eurostar/TGV from St Pancras to Perpignan and rent a car. (One can leave London at 6:30am and be relaxing in the villa by early evening).
Distances
Roses is around 3km and Figueres, the largest local town, is some 15km from Mas Marnic. Palau Saverdera is close by, with some good local restaurants, as is Empuriabrava which boasts the largest marina style development in Europe - well worth a visit for the canalside restaurants.
Further details
There are many local supermarkets, which include the French Carrefour chain, with excellent fresh fish sections. Good Rioja wine is cheap!
Booking notes
A non-returnable deposit of 33.3% is required at the time of booking with the balance due 8 weeks before the start date.
Whilst we are sure our clients will want to take good care of our Spanish home, we do ask for a returnable security deposit of £500 or 700 euros. There is a laundry and cleaning charge of 180 euros per stay payable locally.
