Notes on accommodation
The villa is built on 3 levels. The lower level can be used as a self-contained 3 bedroom apartment. It has one double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, another double bedroom, a single bedroom, a shower/WC, and a lounge/dining/kitchen area with access to the pool through patio doors.
All double bedrooms have large built in wardrobes. The upper lounge has a sofa bed, and two further single beds and a folding bed can also be provided. Electric and bottled gas heaters are provided for heating in winter (October to April inclusive), but fuel is charged extra. 2 TVs, a video recorder, a DVD player and a radio / CD / cassette are provided.
Accessibility
The villa is not suitable for people with limited mobility.
Outside
The villa is set in a rocky, sloping plot of 2,400sq meters with trees and shrubs, surrounded on three sides by protected natural park, which contains wild goats. On the 4th side it is separated from the access road by a wall. There is little traffic since there is only one occasionally occupied house to the end of the road.
There are 2 gated drives which can be used for off road parking.
The private swimming pool is about 12x3m and a maximum of 2 metres deep. Like most of the grounds it is not overlooked.
There are outside terraces on different levels, which give a choice of sun or shade for most of the day.
There is a BBQ on the terrace outside the upper kitchen.
Most of the vegetation is natural, but the upper terrace and drive are planted with typical Mediterranean plants like bouganvilla, palms and olives.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is Cantarijan which has 2 restaurants and is about 2km away. Part of it is naturist. The coast and sea between Cerro Gordo and Nerja is a protected natural park, with several beautiful beaches. These are closed to cars in the summer, but have minibus services from the main road. In the other direction, La Herradura has a good, safe beach with many bars and restaurants, and scuba diving facilities.
Golf
The Baviara 18 hole golf course is about 30 km west near Torre del Mar. The Salobrena golf course is about 20 km east.
Skiing
The ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are about 90 mins drive.
Travel
About 80km from Malaga airport, mostly on motorway, less than hour in normal traffic. From the airport follow signs for Motril and Almeria on the E15/A7. Take the Alumecar/LaHerradura exit at km. 305, then go right back towards Nerja and Malaga on the coast road. Just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel follow the sign right to Cerro Gordo. Follow the old coast road round the headland, then take the only road on the right, climb to the junction and turn right. The villa is yellow and on the right.
Distances
The nearest town is La Herradura at 7km, which has all the usual shops and many bars and restaurants. Almunecar is 13km east, Nerja 20km west. Both have several large supermarkets.
Further details
The villa is managed by De La Cuesta Inmmobiliaria of La Herradura, who will deal with any problems.
It overlooks the Cerro Gordo/Maro natural park, which has a variety of wild life, most notably wild goats, as well as squirrels, rabbits and foxes. There is also a wealth of birdlife. In 1 week in November, there were sightings from the house of Black Redstart, Black Wheatear, Blackbird, Chaffinch, Chiffchaff, Crag Martin, Crested Lark, Crossbill, Gannet, Goldfinch, Great Tit, Greenfinch, Redwing, Robin, Sardinian warbler, Sparrowhawk, White Wagtail and Yellow-legged gull. A common kestril can be seen regularly, hovering below the level of the house. Ospreys and eagle owls have also been seen. Scuba diving is available in La Herradura, and part of the natural park is marine. Dolphins are regularly sighted. They can sometimes be seen from the villa, following trawlers.
The villa can be seen on Google Maps by searching for 'Urb. Nogal 51'. To get to the general area search for La Herradura, and choose the one in Almuñécar, Granada (province), Spain.

Guest comments
The location is perfect for those who want to return home having spent a day at one of the many beautiful beaches in the vicinity to be greeted with breath taking scenery and sunsets. M.H. Oct. 2011
Everyone enjoyed the Villa tremendously. The views from it are more spectacular than we could have hoped for and the Villa itself was of a much better standard than I thought. D.N. July 2008
We had a lovely time at the house. Weather was great and all three generations really enjoyed our holiday. T.W. August 2006
It is an absolutely amazing place with such beautiful views and surrounding scenery. The villa description is very accurate and we were very pleased with everything in it. A.R. September 05
As we perhaps told you, we were my wife and me + our 5 kids + 3 wife’s/girlfriends + 3 grandchildren. The very good arrangement of the rooms and the plenty of space gave us “room” to have a good time together. We enjoyed seeing all our family together. S.D., June 05
House swap
House swap considered, preferably to a European city and not in July or August.
Owner profile
About the owner
I am in my 60´s, retired, and live in the villa most of the winter. I usually return to England for the summer, when the villa is let.
Year purchased: 2001
Why the owner chose a home in this location
The Costa Tropical has the best climate in Europe, and Cerro Gordo is its most beautiful location. The urbanisation in which the villa is located is very quiet, but close to the coastal motorway with quick links to Malaga and Granada. It will soon go all the way to Balcelona. It is also close to the small resort town of La Herradura, and the larger Almuñécar, with all the usual facilities. The villa itself is located in a protected natural park, so no further building is possible.
Unique benefits of the property
The main benefits are tranquillity and the views, and the large swimming pool for the summer. For gentle exercise there is a walk along a track to the top of the hill to the north of the urbanisation which, on a clear day, gives views from Gibraltar in the west to the snow covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the east. Most of the extensive grounds are in their natural state, but the area near the entrance has cultivated plants typical of the area, like bougainvillea.
