Cortijo Fuente La Zarza is a 200 year old Farmhouse which has been recently renovated whilst still retaining a traditional Spanish feel. Situated 10 mins. drive from Illora, on Parapanda Mountain, it has unrivalled panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada and surrounding countryside. It sits in 5000 square metres of land filled with Olive groves and is perfect for a family holiday. Located within the Province of Granada, "Fuente La Zarza" is a 30 min drive from the City of Granada and the fabulous Alhambra Palace. It's an ideal location from which to discover Andalucia.

Bedroom 4 is probably more suitable for children due to lack of privacy.
Bathrooms: 2 Bathrooms - Downstairs Bathroom with Sink, wc, and large walk-in Shower with door to patio with external shower. Upstairs Bathroom with Bath, Shower, Sink and wc.
Kitchen: Fitted Kitchen complete with Double Sink and Granite work top. Appliances include Cooker with Gas Hob and Oven, Fridge/ Freezer, Dishwasher, Microwave and Washing Machine.
Living Rooms: Open-plan Lounge / Dining Room, traditional wooden staircase to first floor. Original beams and open fireplace with wood burning stove. 3 sofas, Satellite TV, DVD player and PlayStation 2. Dining table seating 8 comfortably. Front door to patio and pool.

Notes on accommodation
The Farmhouse is fully Centrally Heated. Air Conditioning is not necessary as the Farmhouse's 2 ft thick walls keep the interior cool even in the summer months. However, fans are provided in each bedroom. The patio is all on one level so is ideal for children - plenty of room to run and explore the countryside.

Outside
There is a fantastic 'floodlit' private pool (8x4.5m) with tiled steps down in to shallow end (1m depth) to maximum depth of approx 2.2m. Large patio area with sun loungers, patio table and chairs and Gas Barbeque. There is also a Pergola providing shade if needed. The pool is not heated and is very pleasant between the months of May and September.

Coast/Beach
If you fancy a trip to the coast, Malaga is approx 1hr from Illora. Marbella with its trendy shops, bars and sandy beach is approx. 90 mins and Almeria, on the East coast is approx 90 mins from Illora.

Golf
The Granada Golf Club is situated on the outskirts of Granada and is approx. 30 mins drive from the house.

Skiing
Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is fantastic. Great family skiing with a creche available for young children. It is said to have the best 'Apres-ski' in the whole of Europe and very reasonably priced. 70 km of ski slopes and 20 ski lifts. Further information available on request. 1 hrs drive from the house.

Special interest holidays
There is also Horse riding available close by - hacking through the Spanish countryside and Olive Groves.

Travel
Malaga Airport is less than 1 1/2 hours drive to 'Fuente La Zarza'. Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch and many others fly to Malaga Airport from the UK. Car hire is available at the airports or on-line.

Distances
Cortijo Fuente La Zarza is the ideal location from which to discover Andalucia. The town of Illora is 10 mins drive away. Montefrio is 15 mins drive. Granada and the Alhambra Palace is 30 mins away. Loja is 35 mins drive. Alcala la Real, a large town, good for shopping is 30 mins away. Seville and Cordoba, both large cities are approx 2 hrs drive from Illora.

Further details
There are plenty of local supermarkets and restaurants serving typical Spanish fayre and Barbeques. Full details of amenities, directions, operating instructions and a map of Illora will be supplied. The Spanish locals are most welcoming and friendly. This is the real Spain!

Booking notes
Full payment is required if booking less than 6 weeks in advance. Otherwise a 25% deposit is required with the remainder payable 6 weeks in advance. A 150 Euro refundable security deposit is payable on arrival.

About the owner
We live in Wirral, England with our three children, Holly 17, Anna 11, Ben 7, two dogs and a snake! We are self-employed and love getting away from it all as often as possible to our little oasis in the sun.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We chose to buy a holiday home firstly because we'd had so many holidays where we'd come home more tired than before we'd left due to noisy neighbours/ surrounding bars etc. Hassles with getting sunbeds, disappointment with accommodation, stresses of laundry etc further added to our dreams of owning our own home. We have always loved Spain and it's proximity to England and spent two years researching the area. We chose Granada as it is such a beautiful, historic city and a fantastic base to explore Andalusia. Further to this we could take the children skiing in the winter in the Sierra Nevada mountains - so we could use the house all year round. The house was derelict when we bought it and have since lovingly restored it and added a pool.

Unique benefits of the property
Our house is in such a lovely spot. The views of the Sierra Mountains and surrounding countryside are second to none. At night there's nothing more relaxing than enjoying a glass of wine whilst watching the lights twinkling below in Granada. Sometimes we lie on the sunbeds and turn out all the lights and watch for shooting stars! It's a home from home with all the mod-cons to make staying there as hassle free as possible. The kids love the pool and are safe to run and play in the surrounding countryside. Our neighbours (200 yards away approx) are all Spanish and have welcomed us into their families and we've had some great nights dancing Flamenco and learning to cook Paella. It's a great experience for the children too - they've made some very close friends.
