Further details
Attractive, spacious and tastefully decorated, Casa de las Ollas is situated in Mecinilla, a small, peaceful village nestling in the terraced contours of a High Alpujarran river valley. It offers light, airy accomodation and a large, private sun terrace with panoramic views. Located at the heart of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, Mecinilla is one of 7 villages known as La Taha de Pitres, so named by Moorish settlers who came to the area following their expulsion from Granada at the end of the 15th Century. Once described as the 'Switzerland of Spain', the Alpujarras is an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected from commercial property development, maintaining the traditional Moorish village appearance with their stone built, white washed, flat roofed houses and friendly people. Situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the breathtakingly beautiful Sierra Nevada National Park, Mecinilla is ideally located for a wide range of activities. In addition to the many walking routes criss-crossing the National and Natural Parks, the Alpujarras offer opportunities for mountain biking, horse-trekking and, during winter months, skiing. Alternatively you can tour the villages visiting the craftshops of local artisans - potters, weavers, woodworkers - relax with a cool drink in one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants or stretch out and soak up the sun on our private, comfortable roof terrace. Mecinilla is served by a daily bread van (1.00-2.00pm), a fruit and vegetable van on Tuesday evenings and a fresh fish van on Wednesday mornings. El Aljibe, a family run bar and restaurant, is only a few minutes walk from Casa de las Ollas. Also nearby are a small hotel - which has a bar, restaurant and swimming pool - a highly regarded vegetarian restaurant and a Bodega serving wines, beers and good food. Pitres, 5km away, has a range of shops including a supermarket, as well as a few cafe bars. Full orientation details will be sent to guests prior to departure
