El Algar is 15 minutes away from the historic port of Cartagena. It is part of the 'real' Spain away from the bustle of the tourist areas but at the same time only minutes away from the coast and the holiday area of the Mar Menor with its many bars and restaurants and the golf courses of La Manga and the surrounding areas.

Outside
The property is an end of terrace townhouse with an enclosed paved front, side and rear with a gated entrance to the pool and garden area. There is a barbeque. There are tables, chairs and sun loungers on the large roof terrace, where there are panoramic views of the Mar Menor to the east and the mountains to the south. The shared pool is approx 20m long plus infant pool at one end.
Coast/Beach
The Mar Menor, the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe, is a 5 minute drive away, boasting white sandy beaches and crystal clear, safe waters. Calblanque on the Mediteranean coast is 15 minute's drive away. Calblanque is a nature park and one Spain's best-kept secrets. It has 13 kilometres of golden beaches, fossilized dunes, dozens of tiny coves and is covered by a network of walking routes and biking trails.
Golf
There are a variety of excellent golf courses in the area including the north, south and west courses at La Manga Club just 10 minutes drive away. Polaris World Mar Menor Golf Resort is 20 minute away. In addition the following courses are within an hour's drive: Villamartin and Las Ramblas golf courses at Torrevieja; Altoreal and Mosa Trajectum near the city of Murcia and the Real Golf Club at Lomas de Campoamor.
Travel
The nearest airport is Murcia/San Javier 20 minutes away and Alicante airport is 70 minutes away. Car hire is recommended but is not essential as there is an excellent bus service in the area.

The centre of El Algar and supermarket etc. is a 5 minute walk.
The nearest Mar Menor beach is a 5 minute drive.
La Manga strip is a 15 minute drive.
La Manga Club is a 5 minute drive.
The historic city and sea port of Cartagena is a 15 minute drive.
The Meditereanean is a 15 minute drive.
The capital of the region, Murcia, is a 40 minute drive.
Further details
Obviously if you are interested in golf, walking, any of the water sports or just soaking up the sun you are spoilt for choice. However, there are other, not so obvious, attractions in the area: Thalassotherapy spa treatment is available nearby. The treatment consists of applying mud to the body. The therapeutic properties of mud and clay have been known for centuries and the mud of the Mar Menor contains high levels of minerals and salts such as calcium, magnesium, silicon, iron and potassium. The treatments available include:
- mud bath therapy
- marine spa
- hot gel modelling
- hydro massage
- aroma therapy.
There is even thermal gommage !!
The application of mud is good for: healing wounds - assisting with the rehabilitation of broken bones - gout - rheumatism - arthritis and skin complaints.
I 've not tried it personally but the locals cover themselves in the stuff and seem to enjoy it!
