The houses have been sensitively restored, retaining their original character. Casa Larga is a spacious home with surprises around every corner. On the ground floor is a dining room, family room, kitchen, cloakroom and spacious sitting room with fireplace. A veranda overlooks the terrace and pool surrounded by orange trees and shrubs set in a large, walled garden. On the first floor are 2 double, en-suite bedrooms, 1 single and 1 bunk bedroom and bathroom. There are magnificent views over the Lecrin Valley. Next door, Larguita, is a smaller, traditional village home, retaining original spaces & 2 staircases. On the ground floor are 2 sitting rooms, kitchen, utility room, cloakroom and private courtyard. On the first floor the master bedroom (en-suite) has access to a small roof terrace with mountain views. There is a second double bedroom, and a bunk bedroom that share a shower room. Larguita does not have access to pool and garden unless rented together with Larga.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property(s) per week in euros. Heating is included in the prices for October through to March + Easter. Heating outside of these times is +90 Euros per week for Casa Larga and +70 Euros per week for Larguita. If the properties are rented together, the additional heating is +160 Euros per week.

Changeover day
In the high season (July/August) changeover day is on Saturday except by special arrangement. Depending on existing bookings, we are flexible on changeover dates for the rest of the year.

Accommodation

Ground floor: dining room, family room, internal courtyard, large sitting room with fireplace and a well equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, dishwasher & washing machine. The sitting room leads onto a large, covered veranda overlooking the walled garden, terrace and pool. The garden is a mix of traditional orchard and lawn with shrubs and climbers.

First Floor: the master bedroom has a super-king double bed and views over the garden & mountains. The en-suite shower room has a large arab-tiled shower. The adjoining bedroom has built-in bunk beds and can be used either a children's bedroom or a dressing room. The second double bedroom has a standard double bed, walk-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room with tiled shower. The single bedroom retains an original fireplace. The main family bathroom has a shower in the bath and is accessed from the first floor landing. There is a small roof terrace off this landing and a larger one on the second floor.

Once the home of the grandparents, Larguita shares with Casa Larga the entrance hall from the street. The house is self-contained with its own private walled courtyard and roof terrace.

Ground Floor: Larguita is an intriguing and charming house with original features and decor. There are 2 sitting rooms joined by a modern kitchen that links both ends of the house. The external courtyard has large double doors that lead to the garden and huerto of Casa Larga should the 2 properties be rented as one unit. The staircases are original and consequently, they are steep and may be unsuitable for people with restricted mobility.

First Floor: Larguita retains the original layout with the 2 main bedrooms each having their own staircases and shower rooms. The bunk bedroom is accessed from landing of the front bedroom and shares a shower room.

Please note: Larguita does NOT have access to the Casa Larga pool (next door) unless the 2 houses are rented together.

 

Notes on accommodation
Both properties have electric central heating; in addition, Casa Larga has a large open fireplace in the sitting room and Larguita has wood burners in the sitting rooms. The Casa Larga pool is 1.4 meters deep all over, with access via large curved steps; as the pool is not fenced, small children will need supervision while playing outside. The stairs in Larguita are original and steep and as such are not be suitable for people with reduced mobility. The properties share the main entrance from the street with parking nearby and good access to the house. Please note: Larguita does NOT have access to the Casa Larga pool (next door) unless the properties are rented together.
In order to safeguard our clients, we have registered both houses as Alojamientos Rurales with the Junto Andalucia in order to receive a licence to rent the properties. This process involved detailed inspection by local government officials with regard to suitability, health & safety, facilities and layout.

Accessibility
Larguita (the smaller house) retains the original staircases and are not suitable for guests with reduced mobility.

Outside
At the back of Casa Larga is a large, walled orchard with a private pool alongside and paved terraced area with citrus trees that provide welcome shade in the Summer. The curved shape pool is 8 by 5 meters and 1.4 metres deep all over. The terrace links the pool with the veranda. There are 5 sun-beds, 8 chairs and 3 round tables in addition to the tables and chairs that are provided for the 3 other external terraces in the house. Close to the pool, is a large, built-in barbecue under a pergola. Larguita has its own, private, walled courtyard that can have access through to the Casa Larga garden if the houses are rented together.

Coast/Beach
The beaches of Costa Tropical are 30 minutes drive from Melegís. To the West, there are many popular beaches, some of which like Salobreña and Nerja, have interesting towns to explore. Marina Del Este also offers a range of scuba-diving activities including courses. Alongside the larger beaches, are many smaller beaches that are popular with local families and offer more natural surroundings.

Golf
The Granada golf club (Av. Los Cosarios, Las Gabias, Granada) is around 20 minutes drive from Melegís. No bookings necessary. Clubs as well as buggy/trolly rental are available.

Skiing
Sol y Nieve is the Granada ski resort that is located in the high sierras to the East of Granada. The resort has a record for good snow all winter due to the altitude, with the best skiing during February & March. Anecdotally, one can ski in the morning then drive down to the coast and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon! The ski village is around 45 minutes drive.

Travel
The nearest airport is Granada which is 20 km distance. A hire car is recommended and the airport is well served with hire car firms.

Distances
Granada and the historic Alhambra palace-citadel is just a 30 minute drive away. There are many more architectural jewels and specialist shops to be found throughout the city and in the old Moorish quarter, the Albaycín. Booking is essential for the Alhambra, tickets are 11 Euros per person (30 Euros on Saturdays and holidays); advance bookings can be made via www.alhambratickets.com.

Further details
In Melegís, there is a restaurant (Los Naranjos), bakery and 2 shops within walking distance. Small supermarkets and cash-point facilities are in Talara/Lecrin which is 10 minutes drive. In Durcal (15 minutes drive) there are cafes, a larger supermarket and general stores. Please note: Los Naranjos closes on Wednesdays and during September.

Bookings and enquiries can be made with us either by phone, fax or email. Once you decide to go ahead and make a booking, we will pass you to our agent in Melegís who will process the payment and provide the on-the-ground support for our guests. We ask for 25% at the time of booking with the balance 6 weeks before the commencement date. All payments are processed in Euros. Cancellation charges apply.
