Finca Paraiso is a spacious wooded estate on the border of the Boadella reservoir in the heart of the interior of the Costa Brava. The lake is uncrowded even in August and highly suitable for swimming, fishing and rowing. The surrounding area is excellent for walking, riding and other outdoor sports and the scenery with the backdrop of the Pyrenees, spectacular. Quaint stone built villages dot the surrounding area and the beautiful coves of the Alt Empordà seaside villages are within a 45 minute car drive. The town of Figueres with its Dalí museum, Thursday market and old town pedestrian shopping area is just 20 minutes by car and France is also easily accessible through the main La Jonquera frontier or the less travelled mountain passes. The loudest sound is the wind in the trees.

Notes on accommodation
The Tower apartment has a circular staircase with banister but small children should be careful. The rest of the apartments are very safe with no steps and there is plenty of garden/fields and woods for children to play safely. Dogs are welcome. Cars can be parked close to the apartments and there is plenty of space for keeping bicycles, motor bikes, boats, etc.
Accessibility
The studio apartments are on the ground floor and open out directly onto the terrace and garden, so no steps need to be negotiated. However the doors are normal size. Car parking is available outside the units.
Outside
Finca Paraiso is a country estate of 35,000 m2 consisting of the main residence of the owners and the accommodation described above, surrounded by open fields, cork tree woods, gardens and orchards. It borders the Boadella reservoir which is highly suitable for swimming and sunbathing. The reservoir area provides a restaurant, aquatic sports facilities (kayaks, pedalos), poney rides. The nearest village, Darnius, is a 10 minute walk from Finca Paraiso where all basic supplies can be purchased.
Coast/Beach
The coastal villages of Port Bou, Llançà, Port de la Selva, Cadaques and Roses are at about 40 to 50 minutes drive. The first four villages are fairly small, get very crowed in July and August, but are quite delightful and are full of beautiful small coves and bays. Roses is a much bigger tourist town with a large wide sandy beach and plenty of night life.
Travel
Gerona is the nearest Spanish airport at 60 kms (45 mins by car), but Perpignan, in France, is probably a bit closer. A car is essential for a stay at Finca Paraiso.

Further details
Most basic supplies are available from Darnius and shops are open from 08.00-13.00 and 17.00-20.00 Monday to Saturday and from 08.00-13.30 on Sundays. There is a wide selection of restaurants close by offering local Catalan cuisine. Tourist information centres are in Figueres and Massanet de Cabrenys (10 kms. from Darnius).

About the owner
I am English, but have lived in Catalonia for 40 years, initially in Barcelona, but for the last six years we have been living in this beautiful area of the Alt Empordà.
We bought Finca Paraiso in Darnius four years ago and converted the original bed and breakfast accommodation into self catering Studios. I live here with my husband, Antonio and our Labrador Molly, but as we both have family in Barcelona, we have frequent visits from our children and grandchildren, not to mention friends from both Spain and the UK.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
In my opinion, this is one of the most privileged spots to live in Europe. The climate is ideal, the scenery, stunning and we are very close to the beautiful, and reasonably unspoiled beaches of the Northern Costa Brava which are situated within a National Park. The French frontier is a stone's throw away as is the town of Figueres with its weekly market, shops, theatre and cinemas. We are surrounded by charming stone built villages with local fiestas, particularly in the summer. The musical festival of Perelada in the summer attracts the very best artists. We are both retired and I couldn't think of a more wonderful place to live. We are truly lucky.
Unique benefits of the property
We live in the main house on the property and rent out the Studios, two bedroomed house and a small cabin.
Our home is on the border of a beautiful reservoir, which is lovely for swimming and walking. The village of Darnius, with shops for all basic provisions is about 2kms away.
