Set on the banks of the river Guadalfeo between the pretty white villages of Torvizcon and Almegijar, Cortijo la Catitera was once an inn used by travellers en route to or from the high Alpujarra. Sympathetically restored seven years ago by its present owners the house is now a comfortable home retaining all the original features such as a bread oven, stables, whitewashed wooden beams etc. Outside are a number of terraces for sunbathing by the large pool and for dining alfresco. There is good road access. Torvizcon is 5 min. by car and has all amenities and the market town of Orgiva is 15 min. drive. Should you want to leave here the coast can be reached in 40 min. and Granada and the Alhambra in just over 1 hour. The house is large and spacious and can in fact easily accommodate groups of up to 10, however we can rent it for groups of 4 to 6. For smaller groups please contact us for details.

Bedrooms: Bedrooms are all upstairs and are divided into 3 twins and 2 doubles. They are all spacious and the two doubles have balconies.
Bathrooms: Both bathrooms have showers and one has a bidet.
Kitchen: Kitchen diner is fully equipped with gas oven and hobs, fridge, microwave etc.
Utility Room: This was once the stables and is located next to the kitchen. Equipped with large fridge/freezer and washing machine.
Living Rooms: Living room is comfortably furnished with sofas, chairs and a bench seat with cushions. It has an open fire and a stereo. There is a large flat screen TV with UK freeview channels and a DVD player.

Notes on accommodation
We have a cot and a highchair for younger visitors.
Heating is provided by electric radiators.

Outside
There are five main terrace areas.
An old stone threshing circle that is the parking area with space for several cars.
A shady vine covered area in front of the house, this leads to the dining terrace with a barbecue and a very large table. The swimming pool and sunbathing terrace is set just below here. The pool measures 10 x 5 metres. Above the stables is a very private sunbathing terrace that runs the length of the house.
Surrounding this is 20 acres of land, the river and the rest of the Alpujarras! Please note that due to fire restrictions the barbecue can only be used at certain times of year.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach resort to La Catitera is Salobreña, just 40 minutes drive away. An easy drive to have a wonderful fish lunch on the beach and wander around the old town. The popular seaside towns of Almuñecar and La Herradura are just a bit further along the coast.

Skiing
There is is an excellent resort in the Sierra Nevada. The resort hosted the World Championships and has excellent skiing for all standards. When necessary, artificial snow is used. Travel time from La Catitera is 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on road conditions.

Travel
Nearest Airport is Granada at just over an hour, with Malaga and Almeria just 2 hours away by car.
Car hire is strongly recommended.

Distances
Travel times in minutes by car: Torvizcon 5 minutes. Orgiva 15 minutes. Coast 35 minutes. Granada and the Alhambra 60 minutes.

Further details
In Torvizcon there are several bars for tapas and an hotel/ restaurant for traditional meals. There is also a pharmacy, a bank, bakers, basic food shops, doctors, police etc.
Orgiva is a bustling market town with a variety of shops, bars etc. With a thriving New Age community, Orgiva also provides a bit of the weird and the wonderful!
The white villages of the high Alpujarra such as Trevelez and Pampaneira are well worth a visit.
