The larger town of Almuñecar a few minutes further on has an interesting market on Friday mornings. Marina del Este has a few exclusive shops and a couple of nice waterfront restaurants overlooking the Marina. More secluded beaches can be found around La Herradura. A little further on still lies the more cosmopolitan coastal town of Nerja with its famous caves.

There are two golf courses in Granada province, plus a new one to be completed soon. The 18 hole Granada Club de Golf in Las Gabias is 30 mins away and is signposted from Armilla. No reservations necessary. Clubs can be hired and if you play in the morning, the cost for 18 holes is approximately 20 euros (more on Sundays and festivals). The 9 hole course Los Moriscos is 40 minutes away in Motril.
Skiing
Our mountain apartments in Guejar are ideally placed for the ski resort (about 25 minutes to the ski lifts). Skiing is great in the Sierra Nevada (the venue for the 1996 world ski championship) and the views of Africa from the top are spectacular. At over 9000 ft (skiing from 3500 metres down to 2000 metres) it is one of the highest resorts in Europe An international ski school is available on site. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes (with more than enough variety to suit all levels) & 300 snow machines. Night skiing by floodlight! While the ski resort itself was built relatively recently, staying in Guejar offers the unique opportunity to sample the great skiiing of the Sierra Nevada while at the same time enjoying the experience of living in a traditional Spanish village - the best of both worlds! Transport to and from ski resort can sometimes be arranged in season.

The local campsite also has an excellent restaurant with views, a pool, a play area, archery and other activities for children. Dear Denise, Just a quick email to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Guejar Sierra. It's a great location for seeing the Sierra Nevada and the local people are very friendly. The apartment was lovely - comfortable and well-equipped and beautifully decorated. We really appreciated the fabulous views across the valley and the regular bus service into Granada. We're sure we'll be back as we still have some unfinished business with the local walks! Both wish we were still there now! Thanks for all your help and advice and please pass on our thanks to Anita and Simon. Hope to be in touch with you again soon...possibly next year (Spring or Autumn). Sue and Nick
Hi Denise, Just got home this evening after a great holiday. Everything went really well and the apartment was super. We would love to return to Guejar Sierra, I’ve not met such a friendly bunch for ages. Anita was very helpful with her advice on places to shop and eat. The skiing was great! Thanks Jim
