Property description

Villa Casa Sonana is the private holiday home of Callum & Jill who designed the house around their love for this region of Spain, its people and lifestyle. More than this, it is designed to provide a luxury holiday home for those who want to enjoy the real Spain in a contemporary, unique villa. They commissioned their Architect to create a luxury villa whose airy, contemporary ambiance takes advantage of the light and views out to the Sierra de Ronda. Its design was recognised by Channel 4's Grand Designs who were interested in featuring the villa on their programme. Casa Sonana offers 4 double/twin individual bedrooms each with their own unique En-suite bathroom, magnificent designer kitchen, sunken indoor dining room, outdoor dining, large salon, library, a large terrace sweeping around the house, utility room and 2 private pools. One for the adults and one for the kiddies. Only 10 minutes from the historic town of Ronda. Free WIFI throughout the Villa that reaches the pool!

Accommodation description

Bedrooms:
Each bedroom and en-suite bathroom has its own character, design and views. Importantly, they are comfort personified with blissfully relaxing Scandinavian beds and crisp cotton sheets, and bathrobes. The rooms are quiet havens of peace and relaxation.

Bathrooms:
All bedrooms have personal en-suite bathrooms, each unique and individually designed. One bath and all have large walk in showers, suspended wc's, unique sinks and lovely fluffy towels. Personal waffle bathrobes, slippers and hairdryers are supplied.

Kitchen:
A brand new customised-designed kitchen, offering large gas cooker, oven, grill, large American fridge with ice making/cold water dispenser, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, central island prep sink, 2nd sink, outdoor BBQ and pizza oven.

Utility Room:
Washing machine, utility sink, iron, ironing board, outdoor drying area. Hoover, mosquito plugs, telephone chargers, sun tan creams, first aid kit etc etc.

Living Rooms:
The Salon has a "glass wall" giving uninterrupted views of the local countryside. Flat screen TV with local telly and a large selection of DVD's for adults and kids. Sunken indoor dining room and open fire place for the winter months.

Other:
Free WIFI available throughout the Villa and will reach you by the pool! Bedrooms have black out blinds built into all windows, combined with mosquito door nets and ceiling fans.

Cleaning/Towels/Linen/Maid service:
Your personal Management team will prepare the house for your arrival, and clean it again throughout the week. Towels and linen are included and will be changed weekly. Additional cleaning available on request.

Outside
Casa Sonana has 7 acres of private land. Running through the bottom of the land is a river and small waterfall, and in season, you can find wild asparagus and mushrooms - perfect cooked with olive oil and garlic! The private adult pool is 10m x 5m with sun loungers and sun umbrellas available. There is also a private pool for the smaller children which is 0.5m x 0.5m and half a metre deep. A large terrace sweeps round the house, and in the outdoor dining terrace, there is a BBQ and pizza oven (pizza cooking instructions also available!). You can help yourself from fruit from the orchard, you will find apricots, plums, peaches, pears, almonds, sharon fruits, and figs. On our land, you can also pick wild asparagus and mushrooms, and in the kitchen you will find local cookbooks telling you what to do with them !

Important notes on accommodation

The Daily Telegraph voted Villa Casa Sonana as one of the top 15 Villa rentals in the whole of Spain.

In additional to a wonderful open fire, Casa Sonana has underfloor heating throughout the house. Lovely for those winter months! We have a young daughter so it is suitable for children.

Car hire essential throughout your stay. Wild asparagus and mushrooms can be found at the bottom of the land near the river during their seasons. Help yourselves to the olives and fruit from our orchard!

When you book with us, you will be given a password which will give you access to a special area in our website exclusively for Casa Sonana guests. This will give you information and recommendations locally that you won't find in the guidebooks!

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds with payment by bank transfer. Prices include twice weekly cleaning, all linen and towels,including pool towels, bathrobes, slippers, a welcome food basket, all pool and garden maintenance, a personal welcome on your arrival to the villa, and the services of your personal management and housekeeping team throughout your stay.

Changeover day
Our preferred changeover day is a Saturday, but we shall be flexible on this where possible, please just contact us.

Booking notes
To check availability and make a booking at Casa Sonana, just contact us. We’ll be very happy to explain more about the villa and its surrounding area. When you know your dates and wish to book, we will hold the villa for you with a 7 day option. To confirm, we would appreciate a 25% deposit of your villa holiday cost. Once this booking is confirmed you will receive your exclusive password which gives you entry to the Casa Sonana guest area.

About the area

Coast/Beach
The Costa del Sol's 160 and something kilometres of coastline are mostly beach, so the beach is the centre around which life revolves in this part of the world. With only a few exceptions, these are not wilderness beaches, but are carefully maintained, regularly cleaned, and generally kept spick-and-span, with lifeguards, beach bars, showers, disabled access and all amenities - beaches with all home comforts. The beaches of the Costa del Sol are under an hour away from Casa Sonana.

Golf
Casa Sonana is surrounded by over 40 of Andalucia's wonderful golf courses at the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz. Both around an hour's drive away. During July and August the courses can be a little crowded (and hot!). We suggest that coming out with these months is best for the avid golfer.

Skiing
Many people only associate Spain with sand and sun and are surprised to find that Spain also offers a wide range of winter sports. Spain's number one location for winter sports, the Sierra Nevada is under two hours from Casa Sonana, Located above Granada, it has the best snow and the longest season in the country. One can look forward to five months of snow. Sierra Nevada has 61km of ski slopes with 45 pistes and 6 off-piste routes. There are 2 cable cars, 12 chair lifts and 5 ski lifts. The ski resort is open from 9am to 5pm although you can ski at night at weekends and bank holidays. Night skiing was introduced in 1994 with lighting along the El Rio slope (3km/545 vertical drop).

How to get there
Casa Sonana is in the heart of Andalucia and offers a great selection of airports for the low cost, charter or scheduled airlines. In more or less an hour and a bit, you can easily travel to Casa Sonana from the following airports: Malaga, Seville, Granada, Gibraltar, and Jerez.

Further Details
Immediately on your doorstep, you have the village of Arriate, a typical Andalucian pueblo famous for its sausages and its Semana Santa processions. Populated by bars and cafes too numerous to mention, Arriate is a friendly slice of real Andalucian country life.

Ronda is only 15 minutes away and is justly famous for its spectacular location. Set on a precipice, with the gorge in the centre of the town dropping some 500 feet to the river and waterfalls below known as El Tajo, has a jaw-dropping beautiful view out on to the Ronda Mountains. The walk around the edge of Ronda’s precipice takes you past its ancient bullring, the oldest in Spain. The ancient part of town is a charming area of narrow, cobbled streets with pavement bars and cafes. The actor Orson Welles was famously captivated by the town, its dramatic location and passionate people.

Your luxury villa Casa Soñana is a great starting point for holiday trips around southern Andalusia and the Pueblos Blanco (‘the white villages’) in the area.

The variety and scope available to the guest at Villa Casa Sonana includes the golf courses and beaches of the Costa del Sol, the excitement of Marbella and Puerto Banus, the Arab grandeur of Granada and the Alhambra and the wild and beautiful beaches of Tarifa and the Costa de la Luz, the sophistication of Seville, and you are surrounded by a variety of Los Pueblos Blancos – each offering their individual charm.

All are within easy reach, less than 2 hours drive from Casa Sonana. It is even possible to visit Morocco in a day using the high-speed ferries from Tarifa or Algeciras.

About the Owner

Hola. We are Jill and Callum from Edinburgh Scotland and our daughter, Maddie. We are both business professionals with our own businesses (Jill in Hotels & Tourism and Callum in Management Development & training), and Villa Casa Sonana allows us a place to kick-back and relax and enjoy precious time with our family and friends. It is Jill's background in hotels and tourism that has enabled us to make Villa Casa Sonana a luxury holiday rental Villa. Instinctively, Jill knows what guests expect both in the booking process and for a luxury villa holiday. We take the rental of Villa Casa Sonana very seriously, understanding the importance of the right selection of a home for vacation-time, we get to know our guests needs personally and many return year after year.

Why this location?

Throughout our travelling life we have always sought out the 'real experiences' that each country offers. We have never wanted to be part of the mass-holiday-market, so when we came across Arriate and Ronda, we absolutely fell in love with the place, the people and the lifestyle. We made friends with some locals and kept returning each year. Through these friendships we were given the opportunity to buy 7-acres field, which we did, and on which we carefully designed and built Villa Casa Sonana. The uninterrupted views surrounding the site where we situated the house are, quite simply, outstanding. We are still memorised by them. This is truly the 'real Spain' at it absolute best.

What are the unique benefits of the property?

It was a huge benefit to us to find an unspoilt part of Andalucia, which was only an hour or so away from Malaga airport. Additionally, the airport welcomes all the low cost airlines, so not only is Villa Casa Sonana easily accessible, but also cost effective. We love staying at the Villa, it is our 2nd home, so offers everyone fabulous home comforts, and combined with Jill's hoteliers knowledge about guest expectations, we know our standards are high. We would suggest it is best summed up in a recent guest comment: "Our stay at the Villa Casa Sonana was like staying at a 5 star luxury retreat set in a beautifully peaceful and secluded valley.
