The accommodation is reached by a private track winding through beautiful countryside of vines, almond and olive groves together with breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, yet only 35 minutes from the Mediterranean. The Alpujarras is an area of outstanding natural beauty, an ideal location for all nature lovers, a real walkers paradise, voted amongst the top 20 walking regions in the world. The Sierra de la Contraviesa, is famous for it's organic wine production, these award winning wines can often be found in the top restaurants throughout Spain, Europe and America. Your stay will be in the Sierra Contraviesa on a farm in traditional Alpujarran accommodation. A warm welcome awaits you at 'Cortijo las Chumbas' where you can enjoy our stress free environment.

Notes on prices
The self catering price is based on 2 people sharing and is for the accommodation and not per person. Any addition people will be charged accordingly.
3 - 4 persons £500.00 per week (HS).
5 – 8 persons £550.00 per week (HS).
3 - 4 persons £350.00 per week (LS).
5 – 8 persons £400.00 per week (LS).
B&B price is £25.00 per person per night max 4 night stay.
Single person B&B price is £35.00.
2 & 3 course evening meals are available as an optional extra.

Notes on accommodation
After a warm welcome, you can relax after your journey by the pool with a glass or 2 of our local wine, enjoy the views, and plan your stay. We have maps and ref books available for your use. We can provide 2 or 3 course evening meals and aim to use home grown or locally produced organic produce where possible, freshly prepared on the day which include 2 scrumptious deserts per person all served with local wine, beer, a selection of teas or coffee, together with brandy, whisky or a choice of liquors and chocolates. Meals are served in our warm and welcoming dining room. The owners live nearby so are always available to help and assist whenever required, but rest assured we would always respect your privacy. For information our electricity supply is powered by eco friendly solar. Outside
We are centrally situated for exploring the Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada National Park and the Mediterranean coast. We have great walks right on our doorstep with breath taking scenery, here you can experience the raw beauty of the true Alpujarras or if you prefer just sit, relax and enjoy the incredible crystal clear star filled night sky. There are BBQ facilities, shaded sun terraces with wooden outdoor furniture and courtyard with swimming pool (for our guest use only) sun loungers and shaded seating area. The Sierra de la Contraviesa is famous for it's wine production, Vinos de la Tierra, achieving many awards throughout Spain. The 2 vineyards Barranco Oscuro and Finca Cuatro Vientos surround our accommodation at Cortijo las Chumbas and both offer wine tasting and vineyard tours for our guests.
Coast/Beach
Glorious beaches such as Salobrena, La Rabita, Roquetas de Mar and Adra, are within easy reach, also in the National Park of the Cabo de Gata you will find the delightful El Monsul and Playa Genoveses both south of San Jose, stunning beaches well worth visiting. All of which can be reached within 1/2 to 1 1/2 hours.
Golf
Golf courses are within easy reach at Almunecar, Almerimar and Roquetas de Mar and Mortil.
Skiing
Winter skiing and snow boarding at Solynieve Granada also cross country skiing and sledging at Puerta de la Ragua are within 1 1/2 hours.
Special interest holidays
Our location is ideal for walkers, wine enthusiasts, birdwatchers, photographers and all nature lovers and those of you who just want to get away from it all. Because of the tranquility it is a book readers delight. Whilst you are in the Alpujarras you can enjoy a ramble through the local countryside and the white washed mountain villages, you can visit the magnificent Alhambra Palace in the city of Granada. Go horse riding in the high Sierras. Wine tasting tours at award winning vineyards. Attend an art class or stained glass workshop. Visit one of 3 wild west theme parks, or alternatively enjoy a day on the coast either shopping or a fun day at the water theme park. On site mountain bike hire available.
Travel
Granada and Almeria airports are less than 1.1/2 hours away. Malaga airport is only 2.1/2 hours away. Car hire is recommended but if you are unable to drive or do not wish to hire a car we can arrange airport pickups.

Granada and the magnificent Alhambra Palace 90 minutes.
Almeria 75 minutes.
Malaga 135 minutes.
Orgiva 40 minutes.
Albondon 15 minutes.
Costa Tropical and the Mediterranean Sea 35 minutes.
Cabo de Gata nature reserve is only 80 minutes.
Local town of Cadiar is only 20 minutes.
Mountain villages such as Bubion, Pampeneria and Trevelez are all within easy driving distance.
Further details
Although we are in a rural and tranquil location we are only 10 minutes from the main A345 which connects La Rabita on the Mediterranean coast to Cadiar in the Alpujarras which then gives you easy access to all the Alpujarran white washed villages, and motorway access to Granada, Malaga and Almeria. The delightful mountain villages of Albondon and Murtas are close by together with Cadiar, the gateway to the Alpujarras which is only 20 minutes away, with its numerous shops, including bakers, butchers, banks, medical center, chemist, supermarkets and a good selection of bars and restaurants. For more vibrant shopping, Motril, Granada and Roquetas de Mar are not far away. In order to reserve your holiday or if you have any questions or requirements regarding the accommodation, please feel free to contact Belinda. Normally a deposit of 30% will be required at time of booking, (the balance is payable in euros at time of arrival) but if the booking is close to the departure date full payment in euros will be required on arrival.
