There are centuries-old, easy footpaths leading to other villages, Romanesque churches and sometimes abandoned monasteries. (Juseu lies on the pilgrimage route GR-18). The Mediterranean mountain landscape, with its many almond and olive trees, varies from gently undulating to steep rocky slopes.

Changeover day
For Casa Arriba and Casa del Maestro, the rental week is from Saturday to Saturday.
For Casa Milan this is from Sunday to Sunday.
The arrival time is between 16.00 and 24.00 pm. and departure time is before 10.00 am.

Accommodation

On the private 'finca', an extensive terraced plot of land containing olive and almond trees, lies the country house (masía) Casa Milan (17th century). The house faces south and is located above a quiet, green valley in an area of unspoilt countryside.
Casa Milan is a large family house with more than enough accommodation for ten persons. On the ground floor (200 m2) is the fully-equipped large kitchen, pantry and scullery with washing machine. It has a dining room that gives access to an inner courtyard and has French windows leading to the garden (within several hectares of orchards). There are five big bedrooms, four of which have double beds and one with two single beds. There are two (new) bathrooms with wash basin and shower and there are three toilets. The house has undergone extensive restoration for over a year (2001), in order to restore its former glory. All rooms have been renovated in the original style.

The house 'Casa Arriba' (arriba means uphill) is suitable for six persons. Its oldest part was built in the 18th century. The ground floor (70 m2) is divided in a spacious, fully-equipped kitchen-diner and a living room with wood-burning stove. Both kitchen and living room have French windows which give access to the terrace with a splendid view of the Pyrenees. Adjacent to the hall are the scullery and toilet.
The upper storey (100 m2) consists of two large bedrooms, one of them with fireplace and both offering a
view of the peaks of the Pyrenees. In addition there is a smaller bedroom. (Total sleeping accommodation consists of: one double bed, two single beds and a three-quarter bed.)
The upper storey also contains a roomy corridor with armchairs and a cloakroom. There is a large bathroom (oriental style) with double washbasin, shower and a second toilet.
All rooms have been renovated in keeping with the original style of the house.

 

Check availability Casa del Maestro (2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4)
La 'Casa del Maestro' (the teachers home) is suitable for four persons. The ground-floor house consists of a large living room with couch and wood-burning stove, an open kitchen, two roomy bedrooms (with insect screens) and a big bathroom with washing machine. The kitchen has French windows giving access to an open terrace with a pergola providing shadow. The terrace is south-facing and has a splendid view of the green valley. All rooms in this house have high ceilings (5m), keeping them cool in summer. The car can be parked next to the house on a private parking space with private access.
(During part of the year, the house can be rented together with the school which can be used as course room and studio.)
There are many opportunities around the property for enjoying the splendid views, in the sun or in the shade.
In 2004-2005, the house was stylishly restored and it is fitted out with all modern conveniences, such as a new kitchen and sanitary fittings.

Outside
Little mountain rivers on walking distance offer opportunities for bathing. Within a 15-minutes' drive, you can find swimming facilities in the Joaquin Costa lake, into which the river Esera flows. In the summer months, you can rent canoes and watercycles. Rafting can be done in the river Esera.
Horseback riding is another of the possibilities near the lake.

Coast/Beach
The distance to the Costa Brava is 2,5 hours driving.

Skiing
Within a one-hour's drive (60 km) lies Benasque-Cerler, a winter sports resort where skiing is possible until about April. In the summer months, one can make high mountain trips in this area. You can also hike in the national nature reserves Ordesa and Posets Maladeta.

Special interest holidays
We can offer the use of our school, which is the former village school of Juseu, a detached building at the border of the village. It offers a tall (5 m) and light room (10 x 7 m) with four large casement windows looking out at the green valley. There is an entrance room, a large hall (10 m2) and a toilet. The schoolroom can be heated with a big wood-burning stove.
The school is multifunctional and can be rented as a course or activity centre, studio, rehearsal room for music or theatre, etc. It can also be rented in combination with one or more of the houses, if so desired. In the future, the school will, for part of the year, regain its original function as a classroom. Beginning in 2006, there will be opportunities for holding seminars, training sessions and workshops, for the giving and getting of information on many different themes.

Barcelona airport, 2,5 hours away.
Zaragoza airport, 1,5 hour away.
Train (from Bracelona and Zaragoza) stops in Monzon (30 minuts driving distance form Juseu) or Lerida/LLeida (1 hour driving distance to Juseu).

Graus 15 minutes away.

Further details
The central plaza of Juseu, is visited by a baker, fishmonger and greengrocer's cart several times a week. There are local shops, supermarkets, banks amd many restaurants in Graus, at a distance of approximately 15 km. In the Plaza Mayor of Graus the weekly market is held every Monday morning. (Graus is also famous for the truffles).
A bit farther away lies Barbastro, center of the Somontano wine region, a village with a 'rambla' with many outdoor cafés underneath the plane-trees, and dozens of bars and restaurants in the area.
