Near the beautiful village of Candeleda, 160km west of Madrid, in the mountains of the centre of Spain, in an area where orange and palm trees grow. (Do you remember? John Major used to spend his summer holidays here!). Made of stone and wood, the house is a reconstruction of a rustic building and keeps the charm of a rural house together with the comfort of a modern dwelling.

Further details
The following activities can be undertaken locally:
hiking, horse-riding, cycling, water sports in the nearby Rosarito reservoir (10km) and mountain biking. Expert local people will advise you on the numerous possibilities of this natural environment which enjoys a wonderful micro-climate (around 22 degrees or more between April and October).
The house is located 2.6km from Candeleda, a typical village with a town centre which represents a remarkable example of popular architecture. Interesting and rich folklore, with several 'fiestas' over the year. People are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Typical bars are numerous. A selection of local tapas also makes a very tasty and filling lunch.
The region is home to a wide variety of birds, including migratory birds, and wild flowers in the springtime and through to early summer. Autumn is a magnificent season with amazing colours and a great variety of mushrooms. Winter is particularly soft as the region enjoys an exceptional Mediterranean micro-climate because of its location at the south of the mountains. Candeleda is
7km from the Regional Natural Park of Gredos, with the Almanzor peak that rises to 2,592m high.
There are important historical remains like the Castro of 'El Raso', chosen by the Celtic vettones, in the 3rd and 2nd Centuries BC, to try to put a hold on the unstoppable advance of the Romans. The latter have also left 2 interesting bridges and other monuments.
Full shopping facilities can be found in the village. Market day is Monday. The whole region is very reasonably priced.
