La Cueva came into existence by joining a ruined house, a neglected chicken pen and a total ruin. We renovated everything with lots of care and love to the detail, trying to include mainly local materials: wood, river cane, esparto, stone and terracotta. The result is very rustic and cozy and at the same time elegant, mixing its own distinct character with a Moorish charm. We are situated in the biggest of the 3 Guajar villages, 20 mins inland from the coast. This is still a living white village of mainly farmers. Sit in your hammock and hear the mules go by or watch them from the roof. In the mornings listen out for Jacinto, the fishmonger, when he shouts ‘vaaamoooos al pecaaoo’ (come on lets buy fish), or the veggie seller screaming ‘nina papas’. There’s an inner patio with 2 Moorish style sitting areas, a unique jacuzzi with waterfall set into a cave and a nearly 100m2roof top terrace with 2 pergolas and BBQ. Enjoy the magnificent views all over the valley and village below.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per night in euros.
For any extra person in La Estrella we will charge 7.50 euros per night. El Sol 6.00 euros per night. No end-cleaning fees or any extra charges. The minimum stay is 2 nights. For arrivals within 14 days of booking we give 10% discount,for a stay from 5 days.
You would prefer to have the whole property for sole use? Except for a few dates (ask us), that can be done.
Changeover day
The changeover days are flexible in order for you to be able to book the most suitable and economical flight. Also we are flexible with the arrival and departure times.

El Sol (Sleeps 2/4, 1 Bedroom)

You enter the open plan kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is fully furnished, complete with a big fridge/freezer, 4 flame hob (gas), oven, kettle, toaster, orange squeezer and a coffee maker. The dining room seats 4, the furniture, as well as all the woodwork in the house is carpenter made. The wooden beamed ceiling, the lighting and most of all the lovely colour combination give this place it’s very special ambience. A bright staircase goes up into the split level sitting area. The upper part has a cosy sofa, that can be pulled out into a double bed and the lower part has a Moorish style sitting corner, in winter you’ll enjoy the glass fronted wood burner. Bedroom with double bed leads into a very bright and happy bathroom with a big shower, toilet and a built-in sink. You would prefer to have the whole property for sole use? Except for a few dates (ask us), that can be done for a surcharge of 20%. |

La Cueva (El Sol&La Estrella Sleeps 9, 3 bedrooms)

| La Cueva consists of 2 individual houses, that share a very pleasant, cozy and cool patio, a Jacuzzi set into a cave and a 100m2 roof top terrace with brilliant views over the village and Guajar valley. Both houses have open plan fully furnished kitchens (both with big fridge/freezers, 4 flame gas hobs, ovens, kettles, toasters, orange squeezers and coffeemakers), very pleasant dining areas(one sits 6 the other 4) and livingrooms. The furniture, and all the other woodwork in the houses, are carpenter made. The wooden beamed ceilings, the lighting and most of all the lovely colourcombinations give this place its very special ambience.At La Estrella we offer 2 bedrooms, one for 2 and the other for 3 people(one doublebed and a singlebed in an alcove), they share a bathroom. At El Sol we offer one bedroom for 2 and in the extended part of the livingroom a comfortable pull-out couch that sleeps 2. They share one bathroom. Off the pool is another bathroom with a shower and a washing machine. | |
Notes on accommodation
In summer we offer fans and mosquito netting over the beds to guarantee a peaceful sleep. Also all windows have nettings. In winter the glass fronted wood burners make the chilly nights a rather cosy affair. We offer satellite TV, DVD/cassette/radio set and lots of reading books. All the bedding and mattresses are of high quality and so is the furniture. In the outside bathroom you’ll find a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. All the sheets and towels are provided, except for pool and beach towels.
Outside
When approaching La Cueva you will already be aware of the special feel of the place. Everything has got a certain flow, the combinations of colours, decorations and cosy corners and rustic details make La Cueva a unique experience. Entering you come to the lovely and cool patio with 2 Moorish style sitting corners and a little fountain. Soak up the lovely perfume and colours of the different plants. Steps lead up to the jaccuzi/sitting pool complete with waterfall set into a cave what a setting! Just off the pool is the other bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink. Off the other side a spiral staircase leads up to the 100m2 roof top terrace. Here you’ll find 2 pergolas giving shade to the sitting corners, sun loungers and hammocks and a BBQ. From up here you’ll enjoy breathtaking views down the valley, across to the remains of an old fortress and up into the Guajar mountain world. La Cueva is situated in a carefree alleyway and therefore very quiet. Nearest parking is only 200m away.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach in Salobreña is only 20 mins by car away. A little bit further you come to a choice of unspoilt and very private coves. The beaches of Salobreña, Añmuñecar, La Herradura and Nerja (to name only a few) all offer restaurants, cafes, bars etc. The attraction of the mentioned coves is there are no facilities so bring your own picnic. Check out the diving centres of La Herradura or Marina del Este.
Golf
Only 20 mins away down on the coast there is a superbly set golf course, between Motril and Salobreña. Play golf with the sea to one side and the snow covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the other. The family members, who don’t fell like joining you playing golf, can sunbathe on the beach, take a dip in the sea or enjoy the restaurants and cafes of the golf club. Another golf course will open soon near Salobreña and yet another one half way to Granada.
Skiing
In winter you have the choice to spend a day on the beach or skiing in the Sierra Nevada or in fact you can do both on the very same day!! Only 1½ hour away in the Sierra Nevada you find Spain’s most modern ski resort, Europes´ski station with the most sun hours in winter. The high guarantee of snow, long and wide ski slopes (up to 75km!), low prices and the very pleasant ambience make this a ski destination of international reputation.
Travel
Granada is the nearest airport (60km), has just opened to international flights and serves already 4 destinations in GB as well as 1 in France, Switzerland, Italy and Holland. Malaga, which has flights to just about all destinations in Europe is 2 hours by car away and so is Almería. To hire a car is highly recommended and we can recommend car hire companies with very competitive prices. If you wish not to drive during your holiday, a pick-up service from the airport can be arranged.
Distances
Granada with its famous Alhambra only 60km. To the Alpujarras 40km, Thursday market of Orgiva 28km, the nearest beach and golf course is 20km away, Nerja with its beaches and caves and the nearby village of Frigiliana are 50km away. Places like Cordoba, Jaen, Guadix as well as Nijar and the nature park of Cabo de Gata can easily be visited in a daytrip. The water theme parks of Almuñecar and Granada are only 30km and 60km away. Motril,the shopping town of the locals is 20 mins down the road.

Local activities: Sit up on the terrace with your favorite drink and watch the sunset or the moonrise and later enjoy the starry sky, make wishes to the many shooting stars or make out the milky way! Go for a short hike up the old ruins across, walk down into Fondon,the neighbouring village or explore the mountain orld of Guajar. Guided hikes are available locally. Go sightseeing to Granada or visit the whitewashed villages of the Alpujarras. Still more activities? Then come over to La Rueda(s561)and have a coffee and cake with us and we`ll answer all your questions, tell you where to buy local handicraft and where to get the best café con leche! Faragüit offers everything you might need, there’s a weekly market (Saturday), bakeries, a café-bar-restaurant, a bank with ATM, doctor and a pharmacy, plus local vendors like the fish and veggie men. Ask us about horse riding as well as reiki, reflexology and different types of massages-all of these can be arranged. This is home from home, just lean back and unwind.La Cueva is brandnew, we only just finished it for you and the result is breathtakingly beautiful. Be one of our first guests to enjoy this jewel!

At the time of booking we will ask for a 25% non-refundable deposit to secure your reservation. The balance can be paid on arrival. We will answer all enquiries and if you don’t hear from us, it’s due to a technical problem or an error in the given E-mail address. Therefore please also state you telephone number. If you arrive on a Sunday we shall offer to do some shopping for you.
