A tastefully reformed semi-detached cortijo. The owners, John and Linda live in one half and the other is offered for rental. The original dwellings are very old, around 250-350 years and have been tastefully restored to reflect the traditional style and rustic charm. Nestled on the edge of the Sierras, Almijara and Tejeda National Parks, with views of the mountains and down to the coast, it is an ideal location for either relaxation or exploration. Not too far to the coast for shopping and the beach. The 6.5x3.5m pool is located close to the house and is surrounded by tiled terraces on 3 sides. There it is possible to relax in the sun or in the shade of the rustic pergola by day, witness stunning sunsets followed by fantastic starlit evenings. The house is furnished in a rustic style, with most modern conveniences.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. Prices quoted are based on four people for one week, or part thereof at any time of the year. A supplement of £30 per person will be made for up to two more persons. Also, a supplement for heating will be made for winter stays.

Changeover day
Changeover days are flexible; all we ask is that arrivals are timed for a 'reasonable hour' ie; not late at night or before dawn.

Bedrooms: Bedroom 1: located in the main house has single beds and ceiling fan.
Bedroom 2: is one level down in what used to be the mule shed. This room has a double bed, a portable fan, en suite shower, tea making facilities, toilet and hand basin.
Bathrooms: Spacious bathroom in main house, with shower, wash hand basin and WC.
The second bathroom is en-suite in bedroom 2.
Kitchen: Rustic kitchen with gas hob and extractor hood, combination microwave oven, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, coffee maker. Small breakfast table and chairs.
Living Rooms: Lounge/dining room - Lounge area has a 3e piece suite comprising 2 armchairs and 3 seater bed settee. Log burning stove, satellite TV, DVD, video, CD/radio. Selection of books and videos.
Dining area has a large rectangular rustic table and 4 chairs.
Other: Door from lounge area leads to a private shaded terrace with outside furniture and gas BBQ.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Shower and hand towels included, but not beach and pool towels. All bedding included. The house and linen will be freshly cleaned prior to arrival, sheets/towels changed weekly. Laundry service available on request. Pool serviced and cleaned regularly.

 

Notes on accommodation
There is a wireless LAN connection available and use of internet. The house is built on several levels, therefore younger children would require close supervision at all times. Close to the tarmac road, the house is accessed on a short dirt track and easily reached in a small car. A car is essential; there is parking space for two cars, more by arrangement.

Outside
There are 5 separate terraces around the property for every mood. There are 2 terraces mostly in the sun, then there is the terrace around the pool, which has sun and shade, if you want to retreat with a good book there is a tranquil area shaded with climbing plants and a wooden screened pergola. Finally there is a shaded terrace adjoining the lounge for exclusive use of guests, walled and gated it is good for keeping young ones safe, great for dining out and BBQ’s. The gardens, although new, are planted with various interesting trees and shrubs. At the rear, behind the old well, there are old traditional terraces with mature olive trees, grapevines and new fruit trees.

Coast/Beach
The Finca is within easy reach of the coast, it is about 40 mins drive to the resort towns of Nerja with it's caves and the Balcon de Europa, also Caleta and Torre del Mar with the Marina at Caleta, shopping and people watching at Torre del Mar. It is also around 40 mins drive to the El Ingenio shopping centre at Velez Malaga, the town itself is also worth a visit.

Travel
The airport at Malaga is about 1 hour away (dependant on traffic). Car hire is essential. There will be full photographic instructions on how to reach us, either by email or post. We can arrange airport transfer service etc. We can arrange to meet clients either at the airport or more locally.

Distances
Competa town and the entrance to the national park is about 10 mins by car. It also makes an interesting and leisurely 1 hour walk, with stunning views along the road. A 20 mins drive takes you to the 'Fabrica de la Luz' within the park, a beautiful spot for a picnic or just to relax by the babbling brook. There are numerous opportunities for exploration on foot and by car.

Further details
You will always be assured of a warm welcome at Finca Madruga. Although the accommodation is self catering, it is a little different, there will always be someone here to welcome you. There is always someone at hand for help and advice or even 'lend a cup of sugar'. There will be a small welcome pack so that you don't have to dash off to the shops for milk and bread etc. There is a programmable safety deposit box for any valuables you care to leave when going out for the day. We have lots of other photos available should you wish to see other aspects of the house and surrounding area. We also have a wireless LAN connection or our equipment is available for checking emails.

Booking notes
Bookings can be made by email or on the phone. A 30% deposit is payable at the time of booking and the balance payable one month prior to arrival. Details of payment can be discussed on enquiry, although we have no facility for credit/debit card payments. A cheque for £200 should be sent with the balance payment as insurance against damage or key loss. Should no damage be revealed after or inspection, the cheque will be returned. Check with owners for availability.
