This Moorish style cortijo has been designed and built with visual serenity, ambience, colours and comfort being of the utmost importance. Nestling among the olive groves of Tijola, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Cortijio el Castano is a quiet and peaceful retreat. The 10x5m private pool reflects the architectural style of the property and is set amongst the orange, lemon, olive, palm and jacaranda trees. Relaxing by the pool amongst the olive groves with the superb mountain vistas, you will occasionally hear the sound of goats' bells in the distance and see horses trotting past. Nearby the white washed Berber villages, can be found clinging to the southern slopes of Spain’s highest mountain range. These were the last outposts of the Moors after the fall of Granada in the 16th century.

Easter is classed as Mid Season, Spanish Fiestas as Peak Season. There is a 10% reduction for anyone wanting to hire both the villa and the apartment simultaneously. Negotiable for long winter lets. We do have an extra single bed which can be placed in most of the bedrooms. Also a cot is available for a baby.
10% discount for November 2008.
Changeover day
We do not operate a changeover day policy as we try and accommodate our clients to suit their needs.

Apartment el Castano (1, 2 or 3 bedrooms)

This beautifully decorated apartment can be adapted to be 1, 2 or 3 double bedrooms and 1 or 2 bathrooms, sleeping up to 6 people. All bedrooms have large wardrobes, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, luxury beds and bed linen. One bedroom has twin beds, the other two have double beds. Both bathrooms are beautifully tiled with good quality showers and fittings. The sitting room is comfortably furnished and has satellite TV and video/DVD player. The French windows lead directly out on to large private balcony, with spectacular views of the Contraviesa Mountain range. Fully fitted kitchen with large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, use of washing machine, microwave, electric cooker, electric hob. Very good quality kitchenware, including kettle and toaster. |

Accessibility
There are a few steps leading to and from the villa but we have made a ramp, which can be used for anyone needing to use a wheelchair. Please let us know if this is the case, so that we can ensure everything is in place before you arrive. The hallway and doorways of the villa are large enough to ensure that a wheelchair can be used inside.
Outside
The Moorish style 10 x 5 metre swimming pool is private for guests of the villa and apartment. In the gardens there are Table-tennis, Badminton and Boules/Petanque facilities. There are several outside eating areas set with tables and chairs BBQ's and sun-loungers are provided. A range of culinary herbs grow in the garden.
Coast/Beach
Beaches on the Costa Tropical are from just 35 minutes drive away. There are many varied and beautiful beach locations including some Naturist beaches. There are various beautiful scenic routes to the coast. There are also several gof courses on the coast.

Skiing
Skiing is 1 hour 15 minutes drive away. The ski resort is open from the beginning of December until the end of March. There is over 70 kilometres of wide pistes and plenty of restaurants and bars in the ski resort. From the higher pistes you can see the coast of Africa on a clear day. It is suitable for all standards including absolute beginners, professional tuition being available.

Travel
Granada airport is just 1 hours drive, Malaga 1 hour 50 minutes and Almeria just 2 hours.
Car strongly reccommended to get the most out of the holiday.
Distances
2km from the market town of Orgiva. Fifteen minutes drive (or a beautiful walk) to Canar, the nearest of the white washed Berber villages. Twenty minutes from the old Spa town of Lanjaron and one hours drive from the beautiful city of Granada, with its Alhambra Palace and old Moorish quarters, sophisticated restaurants, bars and shops. There are many other villages in close proximity to Orgiva.
Further details
Whilst not being a large town Orgiva is the capital of the Alpujarras and holds a weekly morning market in the town, every Thursday. It has plenty of tapas bars, several restaurants an indoor market and many small supermarkets. It has two health food shops and a herbalist pharmacy. Enjoying many fiestas throughout the year, this is very much a Spanish town.
Walking, riding, mountain biking, tennis, parascending, rock climbing and golf to name but a few of the sporting facilities, available in this area.
This area is also of great interest to botanists, photographers, birdwatchers, writers and painters alike.
