Paradise. In a 6 acre oasis of beauty and tranquillity, set in one of the finest locations in the Alpujarras, our totally private, farmhouse apartment is now available for rent. Only a few minutes countryside walk away from the pretty villages of Capileira and Bubion, the apartment has an uninterrupted view of the entire Poquera Valley and the majestic Sierra Lujar. The Mediterranean can often be seen as a silver wedge in the distance with the Rif Mountains of Morocco floating above it. Behind the farm, to the north, the peaks of the high Sierras, snow-covered in the winter months, are etched across the sky. The property is surrounded by a parkland of chestnuts, oaks, poplars, walnuts, almonds, cherries and other fruit trees. A 20m high waterfall drops into a rocky basin in one corner of the property and the sound of falling water and birdsong are the only extraneous noises you are likely to notice here.

Distances
Orgiva, the largest market town in the area, is about fifteen kilometres from us. Capileira and Bubion, very attractive 'white' pueblos, have a selection of bars and restaurants, a bank, fresh deli, pharmacy, bakery, supermarket etc. and are only five minutes away by car.

Further details
Our cortijo is located in a unique micro-climatic pocket of fertile land on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevadas. It is a lovely place for a relaxed holiday and a great base for walking, more-serious treking, bird watching, mountain biking or horse riding. Bookings for the Alhambra in Granada can be made from here (by telephone) but because of the current controlled daily numbers of visitors, the dates you want should be thought of well in advance.

When you leave the Granada/Motril highway to head for Capileira, the road wriggles like a snake as it climbs up into the Sierras through Lanjaron and the large market town of Orgiva. When you reach Capileira, you will be at 1400m and in an area that is a totally protected natural park. From here you look all the way back down to the coast and across to the Rif mountains in Morocco. The highest peaks of the Sierras, with their truly unique flora and fauna, are above you still and you will need to climb another 1600m or so to reach the summit of Mulhacen, the highest mountain in mainland Spain. The air here is clean and fresh.

The hills are normally covered in grass and wild flowers, and there is a large variety of trees growing locally. The many cherries, almonds, walnuts and other fruit trees paint spring with clouds of coloured blossoms. Local village houses are cubist images of Moorish inspiration with white washed walls, flat roofs of gritty, dark sand and tall chimney-pots like elongated toadstools. The streets are narrow, cobbled and overhung with small terraces filled with pots full of flowers.

There are numerous restaurants and bars in the small local villages and reasonably well-stocked supermarkets, cantinas, bakeries and souvenir shops.

Booking notes
Please contact. Because of recent reported problems with some self-catering accomodation we have now decided to request only half of the rental cost in advance from our clients. The remainder can be paid on arrival here to give you some security.

Note: We have been working with Owners Direct for more than ten years now without any complaints or negative feedback.

Guest comments
Quite a few guests who have stayed with us have returned for a second and even a third time. We have had many kind words said and written about the property and the accomodation and these testimonials can be made available if required.

Owner profile

About the owner
My wife (Italian) and I (Australian) moved to the Alpujarras in 1995 after running a successful charter yacht business in the Med. and the Red Sea for nearly 20 years. Before that we had a catering service and cooking school in Rome. We bought a very special property here that had previously belonged to the Spanish Minister for Education. He had made some improvements and had plans for a large house but he sadly died before bringing it to fruition. We built a house that was energy efficient with a low-carbon footprint but followed the traditional guidelines that are mandatory in an area that is classified as "natural parkland". Los Molinillos is an incredible place, with its own springs and waterfall and has views that are incomparable. Come and see for yourselves.
