The house is situated in the medieval village of Peratallada, which is six miles inland from the Mediterranean coast. The house is about 400 years old, made of stone in the typical architecture of the time and the region. It’s actually several houses joined into one, so it’s quite spacious and has a lot of character. The house is equipped with our own comfort in mind as well as comfort for visitors.
Peratallada dates back to the 10th century and is one of Catalonia's most prized villages with a number of festivals which celebrate the seasons. It’s a beautiful place to take a stroll and to enjoy an aperitif in the square. It’s very quiet most of the year, but at holiday and festival times the restaurants are all quite busy and on certain days the castle square has a lively afternoon market selling local produce such as cheeses and hams. In August they hold free musical events in the castle square which celebrate Catalan culture.

Golf
The area is excellent for golf, with several courses within 20-30 minutes. Emporda, with 27 holes and a swimming pool for non-golfers, and Pals are nearby (10 minutes by car) and very good. Serres de Pals is rather new and not yet mature. Golf Costa Brava at Santa Christina D’Aro (30 mins) has dramatic views and is testing in golf and physical terms with many climbs and descents. The best course, though a little further afield is the PGA Golf Club de Catalunya, a championship course but worth the trip. Located on the N11 between Girona and Barcelona at Caldes de Malavella (45 mins).

Distances
There are a number of small towns within 5 to 10 minutes drive. La Bisbal has an interesting old town centre with narrow streets. It’s the region’s main outlet for pottery where, amongst the souvenirs, you can still find some beautiful and interesting items. Friday morning market in Bisbal is well worth a visit. Begur is lovely medieval hill town with its fortress at the peak where you can enjoy fabulous views.

Further details
Shops and banks in La Bisbal, Begur, Playa de Pals, Palafrugell, all with 15 mins by car.
Diving schools at Fornells, Aguafreda and Begur if you want to do scuba diving. Good snorkeling is found all along this stretch of coast.
Sailing and motor boats can be hired from several boatyards. Our Service Agency has a list of phone numbers.
Birdwatching. The whole area has great variety and there are protected sites for birds nearby (Aiguamolls) which provide good opportunities for watchers, and occasionally twitchers.
Bridle paths. These are well kept and clearly signposted. The ones along the coast have stunning views. The walk from Cap Sa Sal via Aguafreda to Sa Tuna is breathtaking.
The local markets are great, both for food and for crafts. Big markets are on the following days, but you’ll find some market stalls throughout the week in most places. Markets finish at about 2pm.
Sunday: Palafrugell.
Monday: Torroella de Montgri.
Tuesday: Pals.
Wednesday: Begur.

"The house is so stylish and sympathetically done, but also homely and practical. The village is great.
We had an absolutely marvellous time in Peratallada, the house is magnificent. Loads of privacy for everyone and cooking in the kitchen was fantastic and eating supper in the courtyard and the kids loved the pool. The village itself was a marvel and we all felt very lucky to return there each day after our beach expeditions.
Thank you again for sharing your beautiful house. I will certainly recommend it to anyone travelling in the area! K. D. family (July 2007).
