Notes on accommodation
Casa Alexandra sits on a hill surrounded by mountains overlooking the white village of Alora close to the National Park El Chorro. Easy access but watch out for the goats trying to overtake! Casa Alexandra is a lovely place to relax and unwind after a hard day of exploring the local area. The choice is extensive. There are numerous white washed villages to explore. Swim, sunbathe and walk along the many coastal beaches of the Costa Del Sol. West and East of Malaga. Then return to Casa Alexandra to watch Alora light up at night-time. The only sound will be the goats returning from the fields. Villa on single level along with surrounding walkways and patios. 1 step down to poolside patio. Driveway has pebble chippings. 100+ olive trees surround the villa. Smoking in the villa is not allowed. No cot or high chair available.

Outside
8x4m fully maintained pool plus roman steps to shallow end. Pool and patio fully illuminated at night. The villa is set in its own large fenced grounds (10,000sqm) with 100+ olive trees. Terrace around pool area has 8 outdoor poolside chairs and matching table. 4 sun loungers. Small teak coffee table, 2 chairs and bench to front shaded area and large table and 6 seats on the back shaded terrace and large 3-burner gas barbecue.

Coast/Beach
30 mins to nearest beach resort Torremolinos with Marbella, Malaga, Fuengirola, Puerto Banus, Nerja, La Herradura, Torre del Mar etc etc. all between 30-60 mins. All different depending on taste/requirements. Gibraltar a couple of hours drive for the more adventurous.

Golf
Golf available at Alhaurin, Mijas and numerous courses along the coast. Nearest around 30 mins drive.

Skiing
Sierra Nevada near Granada is approximately 1 hr 45 mins distant. Full immediate ski and clothing hire facilities available at the resort. We recommend it for a great days skiing or snowboarding in season.

Special interest holidays
Walking, painting, rock climbing, bird watching and horse riding available locally. Horse riding available by the hour or day within 5 miles of villa. Hats available. If interested, please ask as it is best to book in advance due to popularity.

Travel
Car hire essential. Malaga airport is 30 mins away, 45km approx over mainly Dual carriageway roads (slower back roads if suits). Granada airport is 1 hr 30 mins away, we use this ourselves for cheaper flights in school holidays. This is an easy journey, out of small airport straight onto motorway going to 10km from Alora. Alora train station is 5 min drive with regular trains to Malaga and onwards to all coastal destinations as required - very cheap and quick. Takes out need for lots of driving.

Distances
The white washed hillside village of Alora with its lemon and palm tree lined streets is 5 mins away by car and there is a very good supermarket (Mercadona)open Mon–Sat 9.15am till 9pm (closed Sundays). Many local restaurants, Tapas bars and cafes within easy reach. El Chorro national park 20 mins. Ronda 50 mins. Mijas town 30 mins, Torremolinos 30 mins. Malaga 30 mins(recommend day trip on train as traffic is 'interesting!'). You can catch train from Malaga to all the main beach resorts.

Further details
There are so many lovely places to visit and explore in Andalucia or just have a lazy day sitting relaxing around the pool. Alora has a Monday market with a good selection of Spanish shops and tapas bars. Shops close around 14.30 for Siesta opening around 17.30 and stay open late. There is a Sunday market at local Cartama Estacion or Coin. Our local Spanish restaurant Los Caballos is at the bottom of the road and serves lovely reasonably priced food (menu also in English). Los Conejos restaurant in Casabonela serves good food. So many lovely places to visit and explore.
Drive to one of the many coastal resorts or inland to the other white villages and places of interest - old Ronda is antique type pretty with its bull ring and awesome bridge, Mijas is touristy white washed village with donkey rides. Take the very cheap Alora train (el tren) to Malaga and enjoy the old part of Malaga and the shopping centres without the hassle of driving/parking. Recommend www.doyouspain.com for car hire. We receive nothing for this recommendation and are not linked to them. Just consistently seen best prices and near new cars over last 5 years.

Booking notes
Weekly booking, arrive Sat from 4pm, depart 10am. Negotiable depending on other bookings. We require a non refundable £100 per week deposit to secure booking. Owner profile

About the owner
I'm Alan(Scottish), an IT director for multinational publishing company living outside Colchester. Villa is family holiday home and rented out to cover some associated running costs. See myself partially retiring to villa in years to come winter in Spain, summer UK. I visit at least 4 times a year, 1 week at a time typically prefer April-mid June and Sep to Nov when still very warm.

Year purchased: 2005

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Views are stunning, landscape colours change dramatically with seasons from lush green to very burnt. The area was chosen for strong Spanish feel. It's in amongst the Spanish to get a real flavour of Spain but still close to coast for beaches and sea. I can get to Torremolinos in 25 mins using the back roads. Villa overlooks El Chorro national park with stunning azure blue lakes and mountain scenery. Villa itself is was originally accessed through a rough mountain track(as many of them still are!) but one day the Spanish magically turned up and built a tarmac road to the gates and beyond. It's now easily accessed. If you see a dozen cars a day then its busy!

Unique benefits of the property
Another benefit if you are new to Spanish villas is that it is connected to the main Alora town water system. For the last few years there have been no water shortages or stoppages unlike many other such villas that survive on wells and tanker deliveries. Villa purchased in 05 after searching for a couple of years in area. Originally illegal build(like so many others) due to technicality - it was legal when started, builder missed deadline for a signature causing nightmare legal issues - all now resolved. Spain is a bureaucratic nightmare compared to what we take for granted in the UK - beware the legal system totally.
