Casa Mirta is a stone cottage set intimately in an extraordinary walled garden of 3000 sq.m. with a rich variety of flora and all-year-round fruit available for the picking... oranges, lemons, figs, mandarines, apples, pears, plums, cherries, nisperos, chestnuts, hazelnuts, olives, grapes. The river Miño, which separates Spain and Portugal, with extensive river beaches, is a 5 minute walk away. Portugal itself can be reached by bridge in Goyan, 5km away, or by ferries in Goyan or La Guardia. At 6 km there are beautiful ocean beaches, and extraordinary landscape. The local area of O Rosal (The Rose Garden) boasts the richest variety of flora in Spain, and the Atlantic Coast offers the best and most varied sea-food in Europe. The house itself, set well back from the main road and free from traffic noise, is cosy and comfortable, and noticeably lived-in, one of its many special charms being a "Lareira", a large indoor open fireplace.

La Guardia is a picturesque fishing port, famous for its lobster, at 7 km from the house. The monumental city of Tuy is at 25 km. Vila Nova de Ceveira, which in 2011 holds its biannual Culture Festival is 5 km away. Celtic village remains at Santa Trega at 6km. Vigo, the biggest city in Galicia is at 45 km.

About the owner
I am in my early sixties, father of four.... all of whom have spent many enjoyable years holidaying at the cottage. I've been living in Spain for 20 years now, farming the land, teaching, and organizing courses. I live 150 km inland, but I am responsible for the maintainance of the cottage and the large, very fertile, and unusually beautiful garden surrounding it.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The cottage in Eiras that is for rent is property of a group of friends from Denmark, who bought it as a ruin with a large vineyard and fruit garden. The cottage has been restored and improved over the years, although it maintains its rustic exterior and interior. We have now formed a Foundation which owns the house, and it is used as a holiday home, but also as a chance to do some gardening, tree care, sculpture, art etc... all this means that the cottage is unlike most holiday homes, since there are tiny, or large, details all around witnessing the handwork of different visitors throughout the years. We liked the location because nearby you can find sea and river beaches, waterfalls, walks, surf, walled towns... actually the list of all the surrounding attractions is virtually endless.

Unique benefits of the property
The cottage is a kind of "Paradise" ( the name we gave it in the beginning) for all kinds of people, as a look in our guest book will quickly reveal, and virtually all guests fall in love with the place. However, avoid booking with me if a modern sterile environment is your priority. It's cosy, easy to use, warm and comfortable. There's everything you need plus more, even access to tools if needed. There is very little traffic noise, although you are in a living environment with birdcalls, dog barks and the occasional mouse squeak.It is especially pleasant to be able to grill freshly-caught fish on the outdoor or indoor grill, and sit down to eat at the outdoor table,shaded, intimate, and surrounded by Nature with a bottle of the local Rosal white wine, one of the best in the world.
