Los Olivillos is an organic smallholding perched above Ferreirola with stunning open views of the mountains.Set in a natural habitat of great beauty, the apartments sit in a cozy, quiet, open part of the property. Surrounded by ancient Moorish villages it borders the Sierra Nevada's Nature Park. 800 year old trails start from the house. La Taha's 7 villages are within walking distance, each offering their local produce, (air cured ham, pottery, colorful cotton rugs, basquetry...), Moorish architecture, warmth, good terraces for free tapas with a view! Local dishes, vegetarian and vegan food can be had in Mecina's L'atelier restaurant,15 minutes walk away. Los Olivillos' female owner delights in offering safe, relaxed accommodation for all types of travellers and visitors. She can be helpful if needed otherwise unobstrusive. A basket of seasonal home produce awaits you. Your visit helps us keeping the smallholding going and taking steps to make it more sustainable.

Prices are for the property per week in euros. High Season: Christmas, Easter and 15 July - 15 September. Low Season: Rest of the year. Bookings for less than 1 week are only accepted in low season. Daily rates available on request.

Preferred on a Saturday but can be flexible if necessary.

A ground floor, charming open-plan apartment simply but tastefully decorated, compact and cosy. Large windows ofent visitted by the numerous birds arround. Large, very private and splendid garden with views over village and the mountains. Romantic and tranquil setting under a magnificent open sky. A tall, green stretch of bamboo cane, along the North side of the garden. Sun loungers, hammock,sun loungers, reclinable wooden arm chairs and a blanket of grass offer plenty of scope for resting and enjoying nature peacefully. There is a 2 metre, anatomic double bed, reading lamps and a comfortable seating area with a high quality wood stove plus electric heater. The bathroom has a mosaic tiled shower with an automatic water heater, a kitchen area with 2 gas rings, fridge, toaster, mixer, and all other necessary utensils plus a very generous amount of glass and kitchen ware with pieces of colorful local ceramic. |

Notes on accommodation
The apartments are kept simple intentionally yet we believe that holidays are for resting. That is why we pay attention to the quality of beds. We dress them with white, soft, ironed linen, washed with natural soaps and sun dried. Each bed has quality duvets and individual pillows. Two towels per person. Individual bed reading lamps. One electric heater. One quality wooden stove. Oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and 2 toilette rolls to start off plus our welcome home-produce basquet.
we have binoculars on demand if you wish to watch birds from your balcony or in the garden.
to save water we offer you one free cloth wash per week of stay.

Outside
The 2 apartments share a 5000 sq.m. garden full of fruit trees (pomegranates, figs, olives, walnut, cherry, almonds, apple, parsimon, madroño, apricot, peach, grapes, quince, medlar, etc.), aromatic shrubs and cooking herbs. Most of the property is green all year round, with garden areas around the house. The lower level houses the chickens and organic garden which you are welcome to explore. We enjoy sharing the surplus with guests. Washing machine, iron and ironing board available. 1 laundry free per week. The splash pool is 2'50m by 2'50m and 1'65m deep. Lovely, natural shady areas near by. Sun loungers available.
There are hammocks for each apartment. Comfortable wood arm chairs for each terrace/patio plus cane table with glass top and sun loungers for each garden. The chicken coop in the lower level is a favorite for children. There are sitting areas where to comfortably watch the hens and roosters. A variety of birds can be seen and heard in the garden.
Coast/Beach
There are lovely beaches, small coves all along the Granada coast with parking space and small familiar restaurants. There is one nudist beach as well.
Early summer (June to 15th July and the whole month of September) is the best time to enjoy cleanness, tranquility and plenty of space. End of July and August tend to be very busy and crowded.
Skiing
The Sierra Nevada Skii resort can be reached easily from Granada. Granada is 1h 20 mnts from home. Mediterranean beaches are 40 mnts by car. Málaga airport is 2h and 20 mnts. The snowed area in the South side of Sierra Nevada is 30 mnts from home and can be reached by car easily or walking. In the summer season there is a small bus that takes up to the highest elevation where the road reaches. It is a posibility to go early in the morning and be picked up in the late afternoon.
Special interest holidays
The perfect place for a quiet retreat, walking through nature, visit the historical area, have fantastic walks of any length you may choose, joining in local frequent celebrations, sample the varied local food and wine or just relax reading in your garden hammock. Bird watching is a favorite here. So close to the Sierra Nevada we enjoy frequent visits from eagles that live higher up. One eagle owl nests locally. Some of the birds that you can see here are: black bird, yellow, blue, crested and fire crested tits, corn and rock bunting, goldfinch, greenfinch, house sparrow, Eurasian jay, golden oriol, common chiffchaff, blackcap, Sardinian warbler, song trush, rufous nightingale, robin, white wagtail, house martin, swallows, European bee-eater, common swift,crossbills, common cuckoo, lesser kestrel, hen harrier, long tailed tit,common quail, red-legged partridge,green woodpecker, magpie and a few others. We have a pair of binoculars in the house for guests.
Travel
A car can be rented if you wish to move about very freely in your own time. It is also possible to come without renting a car. A bus runs from Granada to Pitres 3 times a day and twice a day to Ferreirola. The bus runs through most of the villages on its way to and back from Granada so one could move by bus through the area with a certain ammount of planning.
Distances
Pitres 5kmts by car. 30 mnts. walking up through beautiful scenery. A free bus goes to the weekly market and back 3 hours later. To Granada 1h 15mnts. Coastal area 50 mnts. Orgiva 30 mnts by car is the nearest town with a variety of shops including 4 Health Shops and weekly open market. Busquistar, Portugos, Mecina-Fondales, Mecinilla, Atalbeitar and Fondales are all between 15mnts and 1h walking distance. By car they can be reached in minutes. There is a friendly tea shop in Ferreirola.
Further details
The completely private apartments are set in their own lovely gardens amidst traditional terraces with some springs with medicinal properties. A paradise for anyone who loves nature, seeks a retreat, wishes to have good energizing walks, watch birds or just have a dreamy, peaceful time. A delight for painters, nature lovers and serious walkers. The nearby village of Pitres (4km) has mini super market, chemist, bank, 24 hour health centre and a Friday morning market. Vans selling bread, fish, fruit and vegetables pass on the road below the house frequently. There is a swimming pool at the campsite (4km) with a restaurant and lovely terrace for a full meal or some free "tapas" with a drink. Within 10 mnts walk there are 4 restaurants, both vegetarian and local ones. In near by villages there is a varied offer of food. Tapas are especially generous in this area. A 2 or 3 "cañas" (medium bear in straight glass) with their attached free "tapa" could suffice for a light meal. The famous white washed villages of the Alpujarras are all around and offer delightful local pottery and rugs. There is a long established vegetarian/vegan restaurant within easy walking distance. Lately a piano bar opened which is becoming popular with visitors. It often has flamenco nights and other spontaneous musical evenings. In summer there is a variety of classical concerts in the open air in the villages, in the open, round threshing floors and in churches.
