Great holiday villa on one level with uninterrupted sea and country views and surrounded by a wooded hillside providing privacy and seclusion. Casa Alfora has a large swimming pool and diving board, lawn and terrace. Just outside Begur with its many restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. The beautiful sandy bay of Sa Riera is within 10 minutes drive. Within 15 mins drive are wonderful coastal resorts such as Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc, Tamariu and Aiguablava. The holidaymaker has a wonderful opportunity to explore the beautiful rugged coastline and many places of cultural interest including medieval towns. A car is essential to appreciate the area. Casa Alfora was completely refurbished in 2008 and offers comfortable accommodation for two families or a large group of friends. The house is on one level with direct access to the garden and pool area and a full width covered terrace leading from the living room makes for wonderful outside living.

Notes on accommodation
Casa Alfora offers very good comfortable accommodation in a peaceful location and is suitable for a group of friends or for two families with the bedrooms and bathrooms situated either side of the spacious living area. The garden is enclosed and it is easy to keep an eye on pool activities from the full width covered terrace leading from the living area. The accommodation is on one level making it very suitable for children and elderly people.
The enclosed garden offers privacy and is mainly level with an additional area accessed by shallow steps to a walkway at the back of the house. The swimming pool is 10 x 5 m. Casa Alfora is available all year round with air-conditioning, ceiling fans and a very effective wood burning stove for cooler months. The property is managed by an English couple and they are available to deal with any queries during your stay.

Accessibility
There are steps up to the garden and house level of the property. The accommodation is all on one level. There is a further area of garden at the back of the villa accessed by steps.

Outside
A full width covered terrace leads from the living and dining areas where the garden is level. The private swimming pool is approximately 10m x 5m with a deep end and diving board. There is a sun terrace either side of the pool with sunbeds and a grassed surround with a further terrace at the back of the house and steps to a raised walkway. From the garden there are superb views of the coast and countryside. There is ample dining and seating with sunbeds and parasols and the covered terrace has a large built in BBQ. Parking is outside the villa. This road is a quiet cul de sac.

Coast/Beach
Drive time:
5-10 mins Sa Riera
10-15 mins Llafranc, Tamariu, Calella de Palafrugell, Aiguablava, Sa Tuna, Aiguafreida.
All but Aiguafreida have soft sand beaches and clear water with shallow entrance and waterfront restaurants.
BEGUR - This historic town with its cobbled streets has an outstanding choice of Catalan restaurants, tapas bars and shops. The main square has entertainment in the high season and there are cellar bars and a couple of discos. Market Wednesday. Wonderful place to be!

Golf
Local golf courses are numerous, the nearest being in Pals approximately 10 minutes by car from Casa Alfora. Details of golf courses are in the house manual.

Skiing
The nearest ski resort is at Valtere 2000 approximately 2 hours by car. Other resorts such as La Molina are a little further away, approximately 3 hours by car.

Travel
Barcelona airport 1.5 hours, Girona airport 50 minutes, Perpignan 1 hour, 12 hours from Calais (approximate driving times). A car is essential to appreciate this area.

Begur - 1.5km
Girona - 45 mins- beautiful old city full of charm. Can be explored in a day.
La Bisbal - 20 mins (ceramic and antique centre)
Peratallada - 20 mins (medieval inland town of great charm)
Platja d'Aro- 20 mins drive Water park
Barcelona- 1.5hrs drive or leave your car and take the train from nearby Flaca with no parking hassles.
Pubol castle- 20mins -Dali's present to his wife Galia.
Figueres- 40mins drive - If you are a Dali fan you will find his museum fascinating.

Further details
Begur is a very charming old town with a castle at its crown. There is a central square with narrow streets leading off, full of interesting shops and offering a superb choice of restaurants mostly with outdoor terraces. In the high season local artists display their work in the square and there is traditional spanish dancing and other entertainment. The atmosphere is very spanish and there are no souvenir shops or 'English bars' There are a couple of good discos. Banks are in abundance and most restaurants and shops accept credit cards. Leisure activities can include tennis, horse riding, diving, sailing, windsurfing, canoing, cycling, water park, zoo. The beaches are clean and have restaurants; some also have shops. Good supermarkets in the town and surrounds.

About the area ~ this is the unspoilt Costa Brava or Catalunya which is free from large Tour Operated holidays and where most of the properties are owned by Barcelonians. It is rarely overcrowded and has retained real Spanish charm without a souvenir shop in sight! This is an area you will want to return to again and again.... Every day there will be a different place of interest to visit, be it a cultural pursuit or another sundrenched sandy cove with clear water to while away the day. All the coastal resorts here have waterfront restuarants, cafes and shops and it is a real pleasure to wander the little streets around the front and enjoy the spectacular scenery that this rugged coastline offers. Development here is mainly villas as the terrain does not allow for large apartment blocks and the coastline remains intact with some wonderful coastal path walks.

The nearest beach at Sa Riera is just a 5-10 minute drive and here you will find the prettiest sandy bay with waterfront restaurants, shops and cafes. Also within 10-15 minutes are the excellent beaches and coastal villages of Aiguablava, Sa Riera, Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu.

About the owner
I have been involved with property for as long as I can remember and when we first visited Begur we thought it a wonderful region and decided to buy a holiday home, Casa Alfora. We rented it out through a local agent the first year (2001). After that I decided to rent it out myself and since then we have built two more houses and purchased another in Begur all of which are on this site. Gradually I built up a business and we now have our own website featuring property in Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal. Poros Island, Greece is another favourite destination of ours where we have a house overlooking the harbour and on the mainland, both with amazing views and both of which are featured on this website. Owners Direct has been a very good vehicle for us to market our holiday homes.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
My brother and I bought this villa on our first visit to Begur which we found to be the most charming place with wonderful surrounding countryside, beaches and medieval towns and spent a marvellous holiday here with friends, renting a villa near to Sa Riera beach. We thought this would make a superb holiday home as it is in a peaceful location with direct sea views and yet only 5mins by car to Begur and in the other direction to the beach and fishing village of Sa Riera. In 2008 we had the house fully refurbished which included forfeiting one of the bedrooms to make a new larger kitchen, renewal of the bathrooms and installation of an additional shower room and retiling and decorating throughout. This has proved very worthwhile and has transformed this family holiday home.

Unique benefits of the property
Casa Alfora is in a very good location being so close to the beach and the medieval town of Begur, with many other coastal villages to visit within 5-15 minutes drive. We love going into Begur and soaking up the atmosphere in the evenings and visiting the bustling weekly market. There is always something interesting going on in the season and out of season the peacefulness is an equally appealing contrast. Casa Alfora has a full width covered terrace and even if it is pouring with rain, which it was one evening, we all sat under the terrace, warm and dry with the barbecue blazing away and it felt very nice! The large swimming pool is an obvious attraction, especially the diving board which kids just love.
