Further details
Andalucia includes the most southern provinces of Spain. It is vast and diverse, from the mountains to the coastal areas including the Costa del Sol and the famous cities of Malaga, Granada, Jaen, Cordoba and Seville. It is an all year holiday area with cool nights and sunny days in winter and hot weather during the summer.
The cottage is in the village of Fuente Camacho which has a population of around 600. It has a school, a doctor's surgery, 2 shops and 3 bars where traditional tapas are available. Loja is about a 15 minute drive from Fuente Camocho and is the administrative centre for the area. The town has many historic buildings and churches of interest and is well worth a visit. Not far away is the small hamlet of Rio Frio in which trout hatcheries are to be found. There are some nice restaurants offering trout as a speciality. Antequerra is about a 20 minute drive and this ancient town is a jewel in the crown of this area. It has always been a religious centre and has many churches and convents of interest as well as a Moorish castle. It is also a busy market town and shopping centre with many nice eating places - a must when in the area!
Granada takes about 1 hour in the car and is everything you would expect of this beautiful city. The history, the Cathedral and the famous Moorish buildings of the Alhambra, the setting is magnificent. If you want to visit the Alhambra remember to book in advance to avoid disappointment. This is just a flavour of the region. Recommended reading as your guide to the area is the Footprint Andalucia Handbook.
