Albunuelas is one of the quiet, unspoilt villages in the Lecrin Valley, dotted around the hillsides and mountains of this area between Granada, the Sierra Nevada and the coast. It is a beautiful village surrounded by citrus groves, almong blossom and olive trees. One can easily reach Granada with the famous Alhambra palace, Lanharon and Alpujarras, Seville and Cordoba. Europe's most southerly ski resort Sol y Nieve and the mediterranean coastal towns of Salobrena etc. Our house Casa Puerta Azul is a charming village property tucked away in a quiet corner of Albunuelas. It has recently been restored using traditional materials. The ground floor is open plan, and the upper floors have three pretty bedrooms and a wonderful roof terrace with views out over the village. It is ideal for a family wanting to be a part of a traditional Andalucian village, and still having the privacy of the private pool and sun-trap roof terrace. There are storage heaters and electrical heaters for winter use.

Changeover day
Bookings are usually Saturday to Saturday but ask if other days are possible. Part weeks are charged as 20% of the weekly price per day. Payment in euros accepted at rate agreed at time of booking. All prices include fresh bed linen and towels.

The towels and sheets are all changed before and after every visit. The property is cleaned before and after every visit. |
Notes on accommodation
Storage and elctrical heaters are available in the winter and electrical fans for the summer. We do have a cot and high chair available but we do have a stair gate.
Access by car is not available directly to the door but parking is just several minutes away.
Outside
A secluded courtyard with plunge pool (4x3x1,75m) , there is a private terrace next to the top bedroom and a large roof terrace on the third floor. There is a small barbecue set and deck chairs and table and other garden furniture.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is about 20 kms away (40 minutes) at Salobrena. Slightly further is La Herradura (Almunecar) with its bustling beach restaurants and wonderful snorkeling.
Golf
There is an existing 18 hole course at Granada and an existing 9 hole course at Motril that is being expanded to 18 holes. An exciting new 4 linked 18 hole courses is being built near Padul (15mins away) and should open in 2005/6.
Skiing
The skiing resort Sol y Nieve in the Sierra Nevada is 30mins away from Granada, 60 minutes drive from our house. The skiing resort is usually open from 1st December to 30th April. It was home for the 1996 World Championships. There are excellent walks to Mulhacen, the highest peak at around 3,500 metres
Special interest holidays
Further afield is the scenic coastline of the National Park, Cabo de Gata and wide expanses of deserted sandy beaches. Excellent walking, horse riding, cycling, tennis, diving, paragliding and skiing from December to April in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Activities nearby include: Horse-riding, Walking, Cycling, Tennis, Diving, Paragliding, and Skiing.
Travel
Granada airport is 40mins away, Malaga 2 hours away. Car hire is recommended and is available at the airports.
Distances
Many visitors reckon that Granada is the most beautiful city in Andalucia. It is about 25 kms away (thirty minutes) and is very historic. The Alhambra Palace must be visited along with the Moorish quarter. Every year there is a music festival in June. Lanjaron, 30 mins away, is the entry town for the Alpujarras area.
Further details
Albunuelas is a quiet village at the end of the mountain road. Casa Puerta Azul is found in the Barrio Bajo (lower quarter) close to the orange groves and valley. The village has a bank, four bars, one restaurant, two supermarkets, pharmacy, doctor's surgery and a dentist, two churches and a small weekly market. The nearby town of Durcal has other shops and the major stores and Hypermarkets of Granada are close by. We have found the villagers to be very friendly but very few speak English and so you will have a very genuine experience of rural Spain!
Booking notes
Heating supplement for storage heaters and one delivery of firewood at 100 euros per week have been included in the prices for Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb and March, but are optional by pre-arrangement April, May Sept and October. 25% non-refundable deposit at booking. Minimum £100. Full payment required 6 weeks before rental. 250 euros will be needed as a damage deposit with final payment unless deposit is paid by a credit card.
