Cortijo Aluna offers a smart, one-bedroom 'casita' built to a high standard, on a quiet farm surrounded by terraced fields and orchards. Just a 15 min stroll from the market town of Orgiva, La Aluna has all the advantages of nearness to shops and bars, plus beautiful views of the mountains, flowing streams and acequias, wild flowers and many birds (spot the golden oriels in spring and early summer), and stunning sunsets through four large, west-facing windows. There´s a private terrace for sun, shade and BBQ´s. Visitors are welcome to explore the farm and help themselves to fruit and nuts in season, and have sole use of the large swimming pool (8x4m) which has clean, filtered water and is usually available from May to September.

Kitchen: Fully equipped kitchen with new gas cooker with 5 rings, grill and oven, and fridge with ice compartment. Washing machine, electric kettle, toaster and juicer.
Living Rooms: Spacious and light open plan living room and dining area, with wonderful views, double sofabed, satellite TV, CD/Cassette player, electric fan for cooling and wood burning stove and gas heating in winter.

All towels and bed linen will be provided and changed weekly. We ask you to bring your own towels for the beach and pool.

Notes on accommodation
The "casita" is completely self-contained and is perfect for high or low season holidays as it is very well insulated against both heat and cold. It offers quiet relaxation, aswell as a perfect base for exploring this beautiful and historically interesting area.

Accessibility
Not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility problems.

Outside
The "casita" has its own private, paved terrace with lovely views down the river valley and up to the mountains. It is partially shaded by walnut and broom handle trees. There is a BBQ and outdoor table and chairs. The house is surrounded by about one hectare of mixed fruit and nut trees, grassy fields and banks of wild flowers; find your own favourite place to relax - in a hammock, under lemon and orange trees, or on a lounger by the large, tile-surrounded pool.

Coast/Beach
La Aluna is about 40 minutes´drive from the coast and the pleasant seaside town of Salobreña. Other beaches are easily accessed along the coast.

Travel
Granada airport is now only an hour´s drive away, and Malaga about 2 hours. We do recommend a hire car to explore the area, but if you want to just relax around the pool and stay close to home or don´t want to drive yourself, we can arrange to pick you up and drop you off at either airport, aswell as outings of your choice, for a reasonable fee.
If you hire a car, it will be easier to get around in a smallish one.

Further details
The English speaking owners have lived in the area for 24 years and can advise you about local information and places of interest. We are in touch with many people in the community (Spanish and English) with special skills such as massage, shiatsu, reiki, astrology, aromatherapy and reflexology. Yoga classes are held just 5 mins away. You may opt for total relaxation by the pool absorbing the plentiful sunshine. But, if you like, we can help you arrange tailored walks in the mountains with experienced guides, visits to the Alhambra in Granada, snowboarding, days at the beach, horse riding, or chauffeured day trips around the area. However, a hired car is very useful and there is vine-shaded parking next to the casita. The local area is quite steep and access may be difficult for people with mobility problems.

About the owner
The English speaking owners have lived in the area for 22 years and can advise you about local information and places of interest. Alan is an experienced shiatsu masseur and Reiki master. Pam is an astrologer and can offer various kinds of reading for those who are interested. Having raised our children in Spain, this is the 2nd farmhouse we have built and lived in, so we have experience of all aspects of living here. We are in touch with many people in the community (Spanish and English) and can put guests in touch with special skills such as massage, astrology, aromatherapy and reflexology, hiking and horse riding, as well as estate agents, translators and so on. We love living in Spain and try to give our guests as relaxing and fulfilling time here as they could wish for.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We raised our children in a farmhouse we built over 13 years in the high Sierra de Cañar. As teenagers they wanted to be close to their friends so we sold up, bought land in 2000 near to Orgiva and built this house. We love being in the "campo" surrounded by fields and orchards and still enjoy the birds, wild flowers and peacefulness - but it´s great to have easy access to shops and bars, and easy routes to Granada and the coast. We feel that we enjoy the best of both worlds and can offer them to our guests.

Unique benefits of the property
From the property it is easy to take either of two pretty walks into town - each taking about 10 minutes. Upriver, a walk up the valley takes you through eucalyptus groves and past small villages. By car, one can access the high mountain villages, numerous delightful mountain walks, but also the new motorways to the coast, ski resort, Granada and beyond. Pam continues to grow organic fruit and vegetables and to encourage wild flowers and useful culinary and medicinal herbs which we like to share with our guests in season. At any time of year something good will be growing and ready to pick. Alan can give massages in his studio but can also travel easily to attend clients in their homes.
