About the area
Several excellent beaches within 10 mins drive. At Vinaros, beaches are sandy with plenty of cafes and bars and activities for all ages including climbing frames, volleyball and pedalos. Parking is easy and the town has plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. Peniscola has a long sandy beach with a beautiful old town overlooking the bay and is very popular.The long pebble beach is much quieter at Les Cases de Alcanar and great for swimming, and the village offers superb bars and restaurants.
Apartment situated overlooking 15th green/16th tee of Panoramica Golf Course. Designed by Bernhard Langer, par 72, Panoramica is a beautiful undulating course with olive and carob trees, and has been the venue for the Spanish Ladies Open on four occasions. It offers the largest practice facilities in Spain, including a magnificent driving range and Par 3 Academy Course. Green Fees range from c£40-50 according to time of day and season. The Club House provides excellent amenities including bar and terrace, restaurant, pro shop and changing rooms. Buggies and clubs are available for hire.A short walk away are tennis courts, 18 hole par 3 course (c£15, ideal for beginners - therefore no handicap required), paddle tennis courts, basketball and all weather football pitches, all payable locally
How to get there
Airports - Barcelona (2hours drive), Valencia (1 and 1/2 hours), Reus (1 hour). New airport opening in 2012 at Castellon. Excellent deals available through Easyjet, Ryanair and BA.
Good train service from Barcelona to Vinaros (approx 2 hours journey time).
Panoramica is located only 10 minutes drive (very easy to locate) from Exit 42 of the A7 Autopista - the motorway between Barcelona and Valencia.
A car is essential
San Jorge and San Rafael, nearest villages with small shops - 5kms - 5 mins drive. Vinaros - nearest town - 15kms - 10 mins drive. Ulldecona Reservoir - beautiful lake and mountain scenery, hill walking and bird watching - 15kms - 30 mins drive. Peniscola - C14 'El Cid' castle - 25kms - 30 mins. Morella - magnificent hill fortress town- 50 kms - 1 hour. Ebro Delta - 25 kms - 30 minutes - bird watching and fishing. Barcelona, Valencia, Tarragona and Castellon - 1-2 hours drive for days out
The apartment provides an excellent base from which to explore a relatively unknown part of Spain. The region offers an array of historic towns, villages, monasteries, castles and monuments to explore. Many host colourful festivals and impressive cultural events through the year. The golf course is surrounded by olive and orange groves against the backdrop of the Maestrat mountain region, with its wonderful flora and fauna. The Ebro Delta is a mecca for anglers and twitchers, while the excellent coastal resorts enable great days on the beach. Restaurants - 3 on site, wide range in Vinaros and all beach resorts, also local villages (but often not open until 8.30-9.00). Bars - 2/3 5mDEn walk. Shops - small general store in St Rafael. Larger shops in nearby towns. Pharmacy - in Vinaros. Supermarkets - excellent mini market 5 min walk across golf course; Lidl, Sabeco, Mercadona, Carrefour - all in Vinaros. Banks - many in Vinaros
