El Cortijo and front terrace and stairs to roof

Pool, planting around the terrace is underway

The Cortijo is situated in 3 acres of terraced olive groves and fruit trees, and craggy rock formations. Wild flowers are abundant in spring and can be discovered via winding paths through the land leading to spectacular views and quiet spaces. The Cortijo is a traditional Spanish cottage that has been beautifully reformed, guest have been delighted with the accommodation and we have regular re-bookers. The roof terrace is popular for private sun bathing and spectacular views. Centrally located for sightseeing, the coast, famous cities or just lazing. Axarquia's climate is sub-tropical and enjoys 300 sunny days a year, even in the cooler winter months there are often clear blue skies. Sporting activities and alternative therapies are available locally.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in euros. Long rentals can be negotiated with the owners. Weekend breaks may be available, contact owners. We will also consider house swaps that can include the owners house that sleeps 4 to 6.

Changeover day
Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday, but there may be some flexiblity. Departure by 10am on Saturday and arrivals from 4pm onwards.

Accommodation

 

Notes on accommodation
The Cortijo is equipped for all year letting, it has a woodburner and calor gas heater. All gas and electric usage is included in the price. The tap water is of a high quality and drinkable.

Small children can be accommodated, please inform the owners of your needs.

There is a caravan sleeping 2, single or double that can be rented very cheaply from 100 - 150 euros.

Outside
The pool is approximately 8 meters by 5 and 1.5 meters depth, cleaned by an ioniser it uses the minimum of chlorine. The pool is checked and cleaned at least three times a week. For young children and those who cannot swim there is a paddling pool. The pool terrace has loungers and is shaded by olive trees.
The Cortijo has table, chairs, barbecue and deck chairs on the front terrace. The roof terrace is ideal for sunbathing and star gazing. Both terraces have spectacular mountain views.

Coast/Beach
Torre del Mar is the nearest sandy beach, with numerous beach restaurants, including vegetarian and Indian restaurants in the town. There is a popular Thursday street market, a hypermarket and water park. The more famous resort of Nerja is another ten minutes drive to its many coves, evocative little back streets and more restaraunts. A little further on the coast is a world heritage site and unspoilt beaches can be explored by the adventurous.

Golf
There is a golf course 30 minutes away on the coast.

Skiing
The Sierra Nevada is a 1 1/2 to 2 hours drive where it is possible to ski and snowboard.

Travel
It is an easy one hour drive from Malaga airport. Car hire is essential to explore the area. Airport pick up can be arranged and it is possible to walk to Periana.

Distances
The nearby pueblos of Zafarraya, Alcaucin and Alfarnate are full of interesting bars and restaurants. Granada and the magnificent Alhambra is an hour away by car, or El Torcal with its Jurassic rock formations and the historic town of Antequerra, famous for prehistoric sites and flamingo lake. Cordoba is 2 hours away by car, its cathedral and old quarter are fascinating. The owners have information about the area and maps of towns etc.

Further details
Periana has two banks with cash point machine a well stocked small supermarket and bars. There is a good restaurant 10 minutes drive away.
Activities available in Periana include, riding, kick boxing, yoga. Scuba diving courses are available on the coast where there is a coral reef. For most of the year the pueblos have fiestas and celebrations of local produce, a chance to see the real Spain.

Booking notes
A £100 deposit by cheque to the owners is required and will not be refunded if the booking is cancelled 6 weeks prior to the letting date, when full payment is due. Please contact he owners via the internet to book. A provisional booking can be held for one week while flights arrangements are made.
Available for July and 12/9 to 24/9 and October onwards.

This is a very special place and the photos do not do it justice. We loved the cortijo and it felt like home. Coming out of the cortijo in the morning felt like entering paradise and the garden of eden.
