Comfortable, 4 bedroom house outside village of Nigüelas, on terraces overlooking valley of Río Torrente, which runs into the broad and cheerful valley of Lecrín, between the fabled city of Granada and the tropical coast at Salobreña. The house is a marvellous retreat and base for adventure, in all seasons, facing south, with trees and waterfall, cool in summer, warmed by log fires in winter. Fabulous views. On edge of National Park - perfect setting for exploring mountains and valleys on foot, by bike or on horseback - wild life around including ibex, eagles, genets, orioles, nightingales, hoopoes - good place for artists, photographers, naturalists. The river (Río Torrente) that flows through the garden all year bears water from the mountains above to irrigate the valleys below. A little way upstream of the garden are pools and cascades which make a fine playground and place to cool off in summer (see photos).

Notes on accommodation
The house is cosy in winter with open log-fire and stove in sitting rooms and central heating in the bedrooms. Firewood is stored in log-shed near back door. The waterfall with mountain breezes and trees around keep the house relatively cool in summer. Having such a lovely setting with waterfalls and pools upstream, in the river gorge, it is a fine place for children, but steps and terraces mean that very young children will need supervision.

A track leads to Lanjarón in Alpujarra which is part of the GR7 from Algeciras to Athens. It's a great place for mounaineers and rock-climbers! Swimming-pools in nearby villages - or cool off in summer in the river. Granada offers the Alhambra, Arab baths and tea-rooms, museums, theatres, memories of Lorca.
