Finca al-manzil is an extensive farm on the slopes of the Sierra de Montanchez, a stunning location, very peaceful, in a world of its own and yet within 30 minutes of 3 wonderfully vibrant world heritage towns full of atmosphere, history and culture. There are 2 houses on the finca, the Cortijo for 6 and the Barn for 2. Both are set in their own walled grounds, completely seperate and secluded. The beautiful pool is set into a natural curve of the mountain and is shared unless by special arrangement, it is a spacious area so everyone can have their own space. The pool has an ingenious mild saline treatment so no stingy eyes and bleached hair. The local village of Montanchez is a 5 min. drive or a delightful 40 minute walk. It is famous for jamon, air dried ham, very delicious. There are several restaurants and many atmospheric bars around the plaza, also a Saturday market for local produce of excellent quality. The finca is famous for bird life, eagle owls, eagles, vultures etc.

Owner profile

About the owner
Pippa and Manfred opened Finca al-manzil after falling in love with the mountain views then renovating, designing and building the 2 houses on the finca. They moved to Extremadura after living in Portugal for many years where they created another successful Casa Rural, Moinhos de Madragoa in the Alentejo.
Pippa is from an arts background and was an interior designer in Portugal. Manfred owned and ran many great restaurants in Austria before settling down into a more peaceful life in Portugal and Spain. There is a constant challenge in running the finca, not only the business but also the maintenance of the 20 hectares, looking after the horses and donkeys and making sure everything looks good and the guests feel happy and welcome.
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Extremadura has it all for us. Glorious unspoilt nature, no crowds, magical historical towns, healthy unpoluted atmosphere and a wonderful climate.
Unique benefits of the property
We run the houses as real homes, not tourist "villas" so the atmosphere is comfortable, decorated with interesting and unique objects and art, hundreds of books, dvds and cds. We love to cook and run cooking weeks several times a year so the kitchen is well equipped and has a great atmoshere for creative cooks, especially the ancient stone table where many a feast has been prepared and many more to come for sure.
