Further details
Gaucin sells everything one needs: food, pharmacy, banking, flowers, hardware, pet supplies, stationery, general stores, doctors, etc. Much of the food is locally produced. The water is from the mountain and notably pure and ample.
This part of Spain is famous for hill walking and rambling. The mountains offer some very challenging walks and mountain climbs. The valleys and river beds offer less strenuous walking, as do the many cork and pine forests which cover the area. Gaucin borders 2 national Parks, the Sierra de Grazalema and Los Alcornocales, and is overlooked by the mountain range of the Serrania de Ronda Mountains. The Beaches of the Costa del Sol are a 35 minute drive away and a little further on you will find the infamous millionaires' playgrounds of Puerto Banus and Marbella.

Guest comments
‘This place is fabulous! The owner, Sylvia, is delightful and very helpful. Villa 'Rosa Alta' is lovely with stunning views. We appreciated the quiet location but enjoyed eating out at Gaucin's good restaurants, as well as visits to Ronda and the Coast. The running of the bull on Easter Sunday was a highlight though not quite the spectator sport we imagined! English is widely spoken and the locals are very friendly’
‘We stayed at Rosa Alta Villa the last week of a two month stay in Spain. It was a great way to end our trip. The tranquility at the villa was soothing and restful. The only sounds were the donkey occasionally and the sheep. It feels very remote, but it is easy to get to town when necessary. We walked in several times during our stay. The lights of the town are mesmerizing at night. April is a perfect time to be here, with the wildflowers in full’ - Helen Marshall, Harrogate, England
Owner profile
About the owner
My husband and I have lived in 6 different countries over the past 20 years and are looking forward to eventually making Gaucin a semi-permanent home.
Over the years, we have had many wonderful vacation rental experiences and hope to be able to anticipate our renter's needs.
Year purchased: 2010
Why the owner chose a home in this location
While being posted to Madrid for four years, we fell in love with Andalucia and dreamed of eventually retiring to Southern Spain. We discovered Gaucin and immediately knew that it has everything we were looking for. Stunning views, peace and quiet, lovely white village, friendly people, artsy expat community, gourmet dining, access to beaches, golf, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, and a perfect base for exploring Andalucia. We are pleased to offer our new home as a vacation rental until we're ready to retire.
Unique benefits of the property
This country house has a lovely, peaceful location. You have beautiful views of Gaucin, but no one can view you! It's a wonderfully quiet and restful spot -- no traffic noise, just occasional goat bells. Also the top of the property has panoramic views towards Gibraltar and the Rif mountains.
