Villa Morisca is in a peaceful location on the edge of Orgiva, right in the heart of the Alpujarras, surrounded by orchards. This beautiful region was the last refuge of the Moors in Spain, and their legacy can be seen in the unique construction of the Alpujarran houses, and the water channels that run down from the mountains to feed the fertile valleys. The area is ideal for nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts, particularly walkers and cyclists. A good network of trails crosses the mountains linking the picturesque villages.
There are magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding mountains from the large rooftop terrace, and you can relax in the leafy garden and shady patio. To the north are the snow-capped Sierra Nevada, whilst to the south lie the mountains of the Contraviesa with their vineyards. Orgiva is the perfect base for exploring the Alpujarras, and is also only 30 minutes drive from the coast, or less than an hour from the famous city of Granada.

Coast/Beach
Nearest beaches are at Motril & Salobrena (30 minutes by car).
Golf
There is an 18 hole golf course at Motril (30 minutes by car) & an 18 hole course at Granada (45 minutes).
Skiing
At Sierra Nevada from December to April (90 minutes by car).
Travel
Malaga airport is 2 hours by car, Almeria airport 2.5 hours, or Granada only 1 hour.
Hire car is recommended.
Distances
Only 10 minutes walk to the centre of Orgiva, which has shops, supermarkets, banks, etc.
Granada, with its magnificent Alhambra, is less than one hour's drive.
Further details
The Alpujarras are perfect for walkers and cyclists, with their beautiful south facing valleys and Moorish style villages. The snow-capped Sierra Nevada provide a spectacular backdrop and good walking trails link the villages. You can walk up into the mountains direct from our house.
There is a newly opened (2011) outdoor public swimming pool in the centre of Orgiva, which is open during the summer (entrance fee payable).

25% deposit is required when booking, payable by cheque or bank transfer. Balance is payable 8 weeks before arrival.

About the owner
Martin worked for 15 years in the travel industry, mostly as a director of Waymark Holidays, who specialised in walking and cross-country skiing holidays. He has also led numerous walking groups in Europe and further afield. He is currently a self employed investigator. Lynn was a secondary school Geography teacher for over 30 years, but after taking early retirement has turned her hand to art, and is currently studying as a mature student in central London.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We have been lucky enough to have travelled to many different countries around the world, but the area that kept drawing us back year after year was the Alpujarras, so it was the natural choice as a location for a second home. The region offers a unique combination of wild mountain scenery, Moorish style villages, and a micro climate that produces 300 days of sunshine and equable temperatures for most of the year. We know most of the mountain paths intimately, and never tire of the delightfully varied scenery. Orgiva is a great location, with easy access to the mountain villages, the Costa Tropical and to the fantastic city of Granada.
Unique benefits of the property
We love the 360 degree views of the mountains from the rooftop terrace, it is the perfect place to sit in the early morning or evening with a glass of fine Spanish wine. In winter we enjoy relaxing at night in our Moorish style lounge in front of a roaring log fire. Although we always use a hire car for ease of travel, it is only a ten minute stroll into the centre of Orgiva, where there are shops for most of our needs, and a good variety of restaurants if we don't want to cook. And if we want a day on the coast, the new motorway link to Motril means that it can be reached in less than half an hour.
