The two Moorish town houses are located in the old part of the village of Nivar, just yards from the church and village square. Nivar is about a thousand years old and just 10 miles outside Granada, 3000 ft up on the edge of the Sierra de Huetor national park. Excellent location for skiing in the Sierra Nevada (only one hour away by car) and visiting the Alhambra. The reception rooms are decorated with the Cordoba mezquita and Granadan tiles. The tiles are complemented by paintings and antique furniture. The terraced gardens have panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada and Granada.

Changeover day
Saturday but flexible. Arrival time is 5pm. Departure time is 10am. However it is often possible to negotiate the odd extra hour or even day, depending on those who follow, who may wish to avoid Saturday travel.

One double bedroom and one twin bedroom. Bathroom has a bath/shower over, wc, bidet and a marble vanity unit. Well appointed kitchen including cooker, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, electric kettle and toaster. Small washing machine in the bathroom. Conservatory with houseplants. Large video collection and selection of paperbacks. Broadband connection and satellite TV. Dining area adjoins the kitchen. Open fireplace/stove. Entrance hall and anteroom with beautiful handpainted Granada style and Mezquita tiles. Weekly cleaning/linen charge included. Further maid service/shopping/babysitting etc available on request. |

Notes on accommodation
Heating in winter is by open fires/stoves. Children are welcome but adequate supervision required as floors and staircases are tiled. There are steep slopes at the end of the gardens which are gated.
Outside
Terraced gardens with vines and a willow tree offering stupendous views of the mountains. Barbecue and sunloungers/outdoor dining table/chairs.
Coast/Beach
1 hour by car to Motril. Better beaches in Cabo de Gata, Almeria can be reached in about 2 hours.
Skiing
Only an hour away is the fantastic resort of Solynieve, venue for the 1996 world championships. High altitude skiing up to 3000m with 70km of pistes for all standards. Season from November to May.
Special interest holidays
Inspiring scenes for artists,journalists and writers.Apart from skiing one can enjoy the mountain scenery with beautiful hill walking around Nivar,in the Sierra de Huetor and the Sierra Nevada(June to September).Sailing and shooting available on request.
Travel
By plane to Granada (Ryanair and Monarch) then less than 30 minutes by car to Nivar. Or fly to Malaga which is 1 1/2 hours drive. Alternatively fly to Almeria (about 2 hours drive away). If travelling by ferry from Plymouth/Portsmouth to Santander/Bilbao, the drive south takes about a day and a half. Car hire recommended.

15km to Granada. 130 km to Malaga. 70km to the coast. 50km to Solynieve. 175 km to Cordoba (to see the Mezquita). 160km to Almeria.

Nivar has a supermarket, 2 restaurants, 2 bars, 2 bakeries, hairdresser, doctor's surgery, chemist, post office and tobacco shop. We recommend the villagers lunch at El Gallo.
