Ancient Olive Farm with Panoramic Views, Set in 8 Acres with 2 Pools
Four Holiday Homes - 1 and 2 Bedrooms
|
|
The Cortijo Los Piedaos. Romantic self catering holiday accommodation was created by the architect owner from ancient farm buildings. The four cottages (casitas) are spacious, practical, quiet and private, yet close enough to be perfect for groups and large family holidays. It is therefore possible to sleep from two people up to sixteen by renting one or any combination of the four. One has been designed for use by the less-abled in a wheelchair. These beautiful casitas nestle amongst olives, oranges and lemon trees at an altitude of 480m (1500 ft).
The cortijo of Los Piedaos straddles a wooded ridge in a unique position with 360-degree panoramic mountain views in the centre of the stunning valley of Las Alpujarras. To the north rise the snow-covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada and beyond them the ancient city of Granada with its fabulous Alhambra palace. To the south is the majestic Sierra de Lujar and beyond the sparkling Mediterranean.

Further details
The Cortijo is set in 8 acres at an altitude of 480m with magnificent views of the valley and mountains, olive and almond terraces intermixed with oranges, lemons and pomegranates. Wild rocky hillside, glorious with thyme, rosemary, gorse and broom from autumn to spring. The terraces look their best in the spring when they rival an impressionist painting, dappled with poppies and borage amongst clovers and grass.
The fishponds, swimming pool and irrigation 'alberca' attract a lot of wild life. The arrival of the swallows, followed by the bee eaters is a joyful experience. Hoopoes dip over the terraces and eagles and other birds of prey swoop down from the mountains. The swimming pool is set against the hillside amongst scented white oleanders. Share it on summer evenings with skimming swallows or, in May, gaze up at a snowy peak whilst you swim.
The valleys and foothills between the Sierra Nevada and the coastal range are of great interest to walkers, birdwatchers, botanists, writers and painters. There are many activities including pony trekking, hang gliding, golf and skiing. The last outpost of the Moors after the fall of Granada in the 16th Century, their Berber villages dot the mountain sides.
We are 1.5km from the main road which leads to the mountain villages of the Sierra Nevada, 4km from Orgiva, market town of the region and 8 km east of Lanjaron, a noted mountain spa known as 'gateway to the Alpujarras'. Granada is 50km north and a new road enables one to drive to the ski slopes in less than an hour. The nearest beaches are at Motril and at the old Arab fortress town of Salobrena, 35km to the south.
